Starbase Discovery was completed in the year 2368 with the intended purpose of being a launching and returning point for Starfleet's deep space exploration missions. Additionally, it served as the central hub of activity for interstellar travel and trade traffic in Sector 014, not very far from the Alpha Centauri system, in orbit around the small M class planet Forza.
In 2373, in response to the ongoing Dominion War, Starfleet expanded the starbase to include a highly advanced research and development facility. Originally intended to develop technology with a tactical application, it's role as a home base for deep space exploration led to an expansion of the R&D department to include engineering, advanced science and medical research, and also a starship design and testing center.
With the end of the Dominion War, Starfleet made a reevaluation of all the ships and starbases in its inventory. Citing the prime location of Starbase Discovery on the crossroads of many paths to Earth and the need for greater cooperation with bordering governments, it added a diplomatic consulate to the station to aid the development of good relations between the Alpha Quadrant powers.
Now in 2377, under Captain T'Lessa, Starbase Discovery stands ready to serve a multi-purpose role as deep space exploration support station, advanced R&D facility, diplomatic consulate, and Sector 014 central hub. The U.S.S Columbia was assigned to serve as a patrol and off-station mission base.
The U.S.S Keller is one of the latest Akira-class vessels launched from the Utopia Planitia yards. Bristling with weaponry, she stands for the Federation's new mission: To protect and defend herself. Under the command of Captain Trayr Liarra, the Keller distinguished herself from other Starfleet vessels. She has recently been assigned to Starbase Discovery.
2 places. One representing the peaceful and scientific ideals of Starfleet and the Federation. The other representing her post-Dominion War stance. Both are interesting, full of intrigue, and always fun.
