What storyline? There is none yet!
Paramout finally appears to be listening to us. They pulled Enterprise when people were whiny about it. Before that, they finally changed and gave us one great season. They're listening in that Trek is no longer 'dead'.
Instead of bashing their ideas like whiny kids, we should recognize that they are listening to us and offer helpful suggestions.
No Reboot.
No stupid alternate timeline stuff.
Please respect continuity.
etc.
Be helpful, not some whiny brat.

The movie, according to news reports, would take place when Kirk and Spock were at Star Fleet Academy together.  In the first place, there is no evidence anywhere that they were there at the same time.  In fact, Spock is much older and probably was there long before Kirk.  In the second place, a prequel simply will not work any better than ENT did.

Actually, I think that plot line may be good.  I think I would go see it.  I'd love to see how Kirk and Spock met.

And yes, there is no direct evidence to show that Kirk and Spock were together in the academy, but there's evidence showing that they probably were at the academy together, but maybe not the same year.

For example, you can figure Kirk was born in 2233 (according to the Encyclopedia, but also do the math based on his age in "The Deadly Years").  That means he most likely started at the academy in 2251, or in that general area.

Spock was born in 2230, according to the Encyclopedia, which would mean 2248 possibly for his entrance to the Academy.  However, he may not have started until 2250 or 2251, because he and Sarek had not spoken to each other for 18 years in "Journey to Babel" (2268) from their disagreement about where Spock should get his education (Vulcan Science Academy or Starfleet).

If you put those two facts together, it shows that more than likely, Kirk and Spock were at the Academy together (at least, at the same time for most of their Academy careers).

There will never be another film with the classic Trek cast.  There will probably never be another film with any of the other three shows' casts.  The only place to go with Trek is in a new direction.  Whether it's "Star Trek the third generation" or "Star Trek before there was a generation", there needs to be new characters and a new story line.  I miss the old casts and characters but I miss Star Trek even more.

No, this movie looks like a disaster waiting to happen. I could tolerate a movie about the Romulan-Fed wars, but this just leaves to big of oppertunity to f*** it up. I don't trust this new director, and they need to start a series before they start a new movie. They need to know what us trekies need, and after Enterprise, it has become clear that they don't. They need to let trekies run this, and a lot, because that is the only way they can make something worthy of our attension

I believe that it is WAY TOO EARLY to guage what the film will be like. It's gonna b a long time until ppl finish the story, so there is no way to know if this movie will stink or not. so instead of saying that this movies gonna stink, try to support it- and if you're gonna send anything to the writers, give ideas instead of complaints- until more of the plot is revealed.

We need to wait for the story before we start making judgement calls.

So far all we know is the setting: probably Earth, just in time for Kirk and Spock's years at the Starfleet Academy.

And it's a tentative setting to boot, it may be nothing like this.

If they can get a good plot that has a great conflict and believable characterization and acting, then I don't mind where the setting happens to take place.
