Ok so PE releases STO under SoE as publisher, and it turns out it's a good game, as per reviews from beta experiences, good game reviews, and good word of mouth.

Would you set aside the fact that SoE is the Publisher of the game and purchase it after release?

PE really shouldn't worry about it, the amount of people who will be stubborn and absolutely refuse to buy the game becaue of who is publishing is miniscule and would not dent their subscriber rate at launch whatsoever. I'll buy it whoever is publishing, I'll judge the game on its quality, not by who is packaging and distributing it.

well, technically the publisher is the one burning the CDs, no? :p

but yeah, I really don't give a damn who the publisher is, as long as the product is good enough in my own opinion to be worth the 15 or whatever bucks/month and as long as I have fun with it

Right, but I don't want people confusing "making" as in development rather than "making" as in burning the cds :)

no vote, unless you add another answer option of:

Yes, I would give STO a try if it turns out to be fun, but will quit in a heartbeat if SOE has any futher, future involvement beyond Marketing/Disturbution/PR.

But I'll vote in the future if that option does appear. ;)

What if the game is still good with SOE involvement?

That really is a seperate question in regards to Development KeptWandering.

I'm just trying to get a gauge on how much SoE being strictly a publisher really would affect people.

I would probably quit too if SoE ever becomes involved in development too, as I wouldn't want to wait for them to melt the game down.

Going by your answer you would disregard your hate for SoE as a publisher to try out STO if it was reviewed as being a fun game at release.

And as for the results so far,
2 People would not get STO if SoE was the distributor even if the game turns out to be well reviewed.
1 Person would disregard their beef with SoE as distributor and try the game out if it's well reviewed.
8 People would get the game regardless if SoE was the distributor or not.

I'll give a similar response to the other thread.  SOE involvement, any SOE involvement, with STO is a negative for me.  I don't care how little they actually have to do with the development.  If SOE stands to make a profit off of the game, then I have a problem with it.  I don't feel the need to give SOE any more of my money.

With that said SOE being the publisher wouldn't, by itself, cause me to not buy the game.  Too many negatives and I don't buy the game or I don't play it long after I buy it.

I think I sould have put

Positive reviews would mean nothing to me.  My buying and playing the game wouldn't be influenced one bit by reviews in the extremes of either the positve or negative.  I don't care what someone else thinks about the game.

In all likleyhood I will buy the game regardless.  How long I play after launch depends on whether or not the positves of playing far outweigh the negatives.  SOE involvement is a negative just like one faction is a negative.  Not enough to keep me from playing, but just one more reason for me to stop playing.

I don't really care if SOE is involved anywhere, as long as its a good game.

Ive seen what $OE does to thier games. They run them right down the crapper. BUT, if they do NO more then simply put a few logos here and there, make the cd's and booklets, and let PE handle everything else about the game, I would buy it.

But since $OE would never let themselves NOT be in control of any gameplay, I voted no, nein, negativory.

Bethseda on the other hand, I would get this game in a heartbeat (As if I'm not already :P )

So if you don't get into beta, don't read any reviews, you'd still get the game? Because it's Star Trek and of great interest to you....

/shrug

Still falls under answer 3, you'd still buy it regardless of who the distributor was then.

Whether or not you keep playing afterwards is different matter and probably another good question for another poll.

Yes, because PE will just cower into a corner and let them touch STO without a contract.........

I give up on you people.
