Warp Drive in five years.

Of course, something is bound to go wrong...

Not saying, though, that it wouldn't be incredible if they DO succeed--decades ahead of Zephram Cochrane's pioneering warp flight.

do u actually think we will go out looking for other life forms? or that they will welcome us dropping out of warp near thee planet.

Maybe an alien ship will be passing through our star system when their testing it. :D

or they end up in some unexplored part of the galaxy, lost in the vastness of space.

Well even if they do get this up and running it might be a while before humans get to go on it.  I read somewhere else that the magnetic field it generates is so strong that it would rip the iron right out of your blood.  So they might have to send some robots made out of fiberglass or carbon fiber or something.

Wiat , wouldent this be hyperspace then ?

Hyperspace and Warp space is sort of the samething and both achieve the same goal--when functioning properly. They both propel a craft at faster-than-light speeds.

except hyperspace and subspace (not warpspace) are fictitious.

Very interesting. Perhaps a bit ambitious, but interesting none the less.
As far as magnetic fields, I'd be concerned about the ships electronics systems. They can of course shield them (and a crew if one was aboard), but to what extent? I wonder if standard EMP shielding would suffice or would they need to come up with something else. The other thing is I would hope the guidance system was well tested because nothing says oops like having your prototype INSIDE jupiter versus near it

If I recall, NIkola Tesla was working on this exact same principle before/during WWII... And quite publicly at that. What happened between now and then?

If we manage to discover a means of faster than light travel we would have to figure out a way to circumvent the actual acceleration upto lightspeed.

This is because if we took a conventional approach to acceleration there would be massive implications due to time dilation. Sometime along the acceleration curve this would be so extreme that seconds would end up taking decades in relation to the rest of the universe.

Actually no telsa never work on warp drive in any manner, the Whole Heims theory that this version of hyperspace is basically extending Einstein equations into 4 additional dimension.

Kalzu did the same, and show Einstein that the equations for Gravity were the same as those for maxwell equation on electromagnetism if you added 2 additional dimension, Heims added 2 more and allow the combining of Strong and weak force.

The fact are many physicist are unfamilar with Heim's work, it base on Relativity than Quantum mechanics, which is the bases of string and most other Grand unification, such Super Gravity and symmetry, and look at Heim work as pure nonsense.

But Heims theory does predict the correct masses of all known particles, even predicting that neutrinos hade mass, which no other theory come close to doing...

It a shame that the Z machine ( which is the most powerful source of Magnetic fields to date) is not gear to do any testing of Heims work..

as it stand a good test of Heim theory would be measuring the speed of gravity, Heim predicted that Gravity would be 25% faster than light. As it stand all attempts to measure gravity show it to be no faster than the speed of light, but the measurement are not as precise as many would like..
