Has anyone here played Eve online? If not you should as there are many good things that have been done in that game that should be considered to be put into this game, and while other games lose players over time this one has done nothing but gain more. One of the best feature IMO is the vastness of the gaming universe, even with 20,000 people on its only shard, there are many places worth going to that are not crowded. The way skills are done attract players who plan to be their years to come not just a few months down the road. So If your not just for a "quick buck" type of game then i would think you should look at that one. It also incorperates both PvP and PvC in the same envirnment. I could list many other pluses, and minuses to that game but overall it been the best I have played.

P.S. also they dont charge you extra for major game updates :P

There's a bajillion threads on this, yes there are a lot of eve players who have visited, posted how nice the skills system was, and how nice it is grinding and all the downtime travelling etc, and on guildwars and everything on it like why it's not considered a mmog and why you can't compare STO to it... well ok not a bajillion, but it's been brought up before, discussed to death, you can do a search for them. ;)

I'm playing EVE and loving it.  Truth to be told is that it's not everyone's cup of tea.  The learning curve is very steep, the tutorial it's really long, although it's very thorough and there can be a lot of downtime.  Sometimes I go take a nap while I make 10 jumps or more.  But it is refreshing and different.  There's a lot there that should be emulated or built upon.

Played Eve and couldn't get into it.  The tutorial was absolute murder.  Felt like the ship was controlling itself with just occasional input from me.  I felt more like I was coaching someone playing a game rather than playing myself.

If we are looking at other games, ST:O should definatly take a look at the escape pod system in Quake IV.  Its hard to believe your not really there!
The whole games simple sucks you in, so PE take a look at the aspects of Q4 that could be used in an MMO environment and play with the ideas.

If we are in fact looking at other games . . . please DO look at The Matrix Online. Although it has become the red-headed stepchild of SOE, there was great promise in this MMOG and there still are many enjoyable aspects of this game that could port to ST:O.
Live Events, player driven story arcs and interactions with NPC personalities would be great in ST:O. Oh yeah, and adherance to established canon would be just peachy. Thanks.

Hmm i experiance very little downtime in eve, and I play alot. But also I can see right off the bat that this game is heading in a bad direction because they have preset professions which if you force people to choose them at the start of the game is quite pointless, as if you discover another one would be better you will have to start a new character, so maybe they should consider building all your basic skill in say " starfleet academy" and then let you choose a profession once you have tried a few, or let you  "g back to school" to train multiple professions if you play for the long haul. I am not preposing the copy Eve, with just a Star Trek face lift, I am just saying they shoudl look at the idea that work, but its probly to late for that now in the codeing process anyway.

That is not the case, if you read the article from PE website, they say that after selecting your starting character, you can train in all other skills from other prof as well, but it would appear that your strength will be from the base choice of your prof. That is how I believe it will work
