Anyone else excited about following orders?

Depends on what kind of orders they are!   erm ... *drags mind out of the gutter*

Actually it will help me feel like I am part of something bigger.  And to get a 'good job' after it all would make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I am sure the DEVs are thinking long and hard over adding RP servers, and I am sure a ton of hardcore star fans will be on them. Will they enforce the rules of roleplay on them? We will have to wait and see. Will people follow orders on or off the RP servers? I am sure there will be people that will play the role of starfleet officer to the letter.

The next question is once the Klingons and Romulans get add or whoever else, will you follow orders under those systems like they are handled in the show?

Klingons can challage the Captain if they see he is unfit.
Romulans can have their Captain sit removed by the Tal shi ar

Just makes for a good what if setup I think.

Unfortunately, most of the commanding officers, at least for awhile, will be little powergaming teenagers who play the game 14 hours a day in an attempt to become "uber".

But in time, there will be responsible roleplaying types that aren't on power trips who just want to play this game the way it should be played and when that happens, they will make excellent commanders.

I guess that if someone abuses the powers of a commanding officer, then people aren't going to want to serve on their ship...

Happy to follow orders.

Anything less would be chaos.  The ship has to have a command and control structure or it won't work.  You have to group with people that understand this basic concept.

Well, I suppose it really depends.  If the order is, for instance, to scan a planet, beam down on a mission, set up covering fire, etc., sure.
If, on the other hand, during a diplomatic conference my CO told me to drop my pants, run around in circles, shoot everything regardless of how mobile or immobile it may be, and start screaming "we roxored you n00bs!  lololol!", I might have to think about it for a while.

It will be neat - especially for the first few 'levels' I imagine the senior officers and NCO's will be NPCs giving orders and rewarding them with 'experience' -
but you can bet on one thing for sure -
NONE of my character's last names will be Johnson or Jones -
and I sure wont be wearing a red shirt :)

Since I've played in a Star Trek RPG, I grew accustomed to taking orders in that setting. I'm equally okay with that. However, that was a role-playing setting.

In the start of the game, I see myself transferring through ships a lot. It's not that I don't have confidence in my fellow humans. (grin) I simply agree with BigDaddyCry and some of the others.

There will be power trips. Some will make bad command decisions. Captains will order your character to risk their life, even if you don't agree with the logic.

Now, what I do wonder is... how the Prime Directive will effect gameplay and command decisions. Can a captain give an order that goes against the Prime Directive? More than likely. Will the officer *have* to obey, even though their captain isn't following Starfleet protocol?

Insubordination? Mutiny?

These are major questions that will come up. So... I'm eager to take orders. I'm weary however of what orders will be given.

Sign me up for the "Command Structure, RP-Only" server.

Without disciplinary action in-game (thanks griefers, for everything... really), it will have to be role-played.

A group like the Maqui can only exist on an RP server.  They are against the military, and I hardly think that regular servers will feel like Starfleet.

I have no confidence in others who will name their characters something totally stupid, as in all other MMO games.  Take orders from one of these clowns?  I don't think so.

Following orders seems quite boring to me. If you are the helm officer and are given an order to go to position x..you go to position x. Feel more like a taxi driver than a critical member. What fun is there in just doing something the Captain or any other monkey with the ability to push a button can do??
Now if the flight from point a to point b is riddled with hazards and the helm actually has to perform manuevers based on skill/level ability then THAT would be the time to follow orders.
Otherwise you become Gwen from "Space Quest" whose sole function (besides being eye candy) is to repeat questions to the computer.

Roleplaying servers rarely work in MMO's, but there just might be enough hardcore roleplayers here to make it work. I will be in the conventional server, lemmie know how it goes.

role play servers work well on WOW. if there is a reasonable amount of enforcement,  Names for example, and keeping OOC comments in a private chat or message for the most part.

I think following orders is not really hard as team work does not always need a leader but when it comes to ships and crew the captian is an important hub of choice making.
