but I also believe in a rational universe that operates by strict physical laws, and I don't see why God couldn't have used evolution to create all the life we see around us

An interesting concept. I dont believe it quite yet, because evolution can also go wrong, and god wouldn't allow that if he was being responsible. Example:

In the arctic or antarctic or wherever polar bears live, if there is a slight mutation and a cub gets thicker fur than his/her brothers/sisters, then he/she will survive better, and goon to have future generations. However if a cub gets thinner fur than his/her brothers/sisters then he/she will not survive as well and will most likely be picked on by survival of the fittest and die before he/she has a chance to reproduce.

(This is how evolution works.)

I believe most modern evolutionary science has moved away from the 'gradual accretion of minute changes' mechanism toward those that are more dramatic.

Anybody up on the latest developments?

This is basically the same thread as "origins of life". Would people please get their act together??

Sorry, I created the other thread precisely because some of the evolution camp said Evolution doesn't deal with the origin of life, just its advancement from low to higher forms of life.

To my mind, they're the same thing too! But, hey, I'll roll with the punches...

Actually darwin paper" origin of the species" actually contribute god as the create of life and evolution as the means it adapted to different enivorniments.

It was his later writting where he express that life could have arose thru chemical reactions occuring on newily form earth.

The concept of evolution as a means of explain the origin of life on the planet is a cover in multiple theories dealing with biochemical aspects of evolution.
