The holodeck would be a great place to create 'instanced' areas. I like the idea of a captain being able to drill his/her crew without penalty in a holodeck enviroment.  Not to mention, it's nice to have instanced areas where you're not crowded with other players trying to use the same area.

Form what i have read in a post from a PE dev it seems there is a high posiblity of both pre-scripted(thise will be in the game for sure) and randomly generated missions.
This is a good aproach from my point of view. Personaly i don't have anything aginst misions that are not repeatable as far as they are not inportant and hand-made missions are not wasted on them.
So if we will have randomly generated misions this is not a problem as they by definition should work in non repeatable way. I hope if Pe decides to implement them there will always be one available to take for everyone. I hope that the matrix for generation will be complex and the databes will have a lot of elemnts from which to draw.

I hope PE won't use too much instancing or that at least they will solve the two main problems.
The feeling that you are not in a MMOG and problems if you get disconected (you fall out of the zone and your party loses a member).

Well they have 2 years or a little more to sort it out.

To prevent that, what if the player remains on the ship as LD for 10 minutes. The most annoying thing for Planetside is crashing and taking more than 4 minutes to log back in. If you do, and the continent you were on had a population lock, then you'd be guaranteed a boring sit down for about 10+ minutes. So, by having the player go LD for 10 minues, instead of 4, it will give the player a chance to get back on if their computer isn't the fastest ever, and will prevent them from getting locked out of instanced zones.

I agree that limited missions would be fine, just as long as they don't greatly impact the game's narrative.  I don't mind if they impacted something more organic, i.e. sector status or something, but I think all players should have the opportunity to experience primary story/scripted missions equally.  The narrative aspect ceases to become cool if you have to hear everything second hand.

So, if you are in sector, I don't know, 221-G, and you have a random mission to escort a supply convoy to the future location of a starbase, it might not be repeatable.  (Or, in that specific case, it would have a limited number of plays because I doubt a starbase is getting built with the resources of one convoy alone, but I digress...).  Anyway, given your success and enough time (along with some defense missions in between, I imagine, although they'd be separate missions rather than part of the same one), Starfleet would have a new Starbase in the sector.

I think it would be a good compliment to situations like this if each character had a record that could be accessed from ship and starbase computers that would show things like "Participated in Construction of Starbase 427 in Sector 221-G" or something.

That would be nice. It'd serve as a nice thing to brag about when comparing ships. "Yeah? Well I built a starbase!" It's on a fairly big scale and will have a future use, but it's nothing too major. Perhaps the starbase could constantly under construction, with construction bees and convoys visible to all who look upon it.

I like the idea that some of the missions should affect the sector, rather than just the random planet being harassed by a small group of generic pirates. It doesn't have to be just starbases. It could be new shipyards, new colony's, new everything. Dynamic missions of small to medium scale FTW!

Well not readding everyones post but just a my thoughts.

First i think there should be first come missions. I always belived that there needs to be some things that are rare.  I hate when i play a game and i do a really really hard quest/mission that took hours/weeks to finnish then 2 months later u see 500 people with the same rare item but now it is not rare.  Like sw:g as much as i like hte idea of jedi i hate that it turned in to something not rare. Same goes for mando armor and bh armor. I think for swg that a few jedi like 1 a month unlocked perserver would have been alot better then 100 a day.  It makes getting that item/ reward so much better when u get it and know it is rare.

Now i think some missions would be nice if they were rare.  Now i dont mean a newbie to the game can get this rare missions.  I think there should be some kind of honor system in game for players/ships/fleets.  For players i think there should be harder soloable missions like for worf it was going on teh mission for the one guys sword "k'less" not sure the spelling on his name. Then there should be ship missions that are rare. Such as covert missions behind enemy lines or going on a top secret mission to test new tech and run a shake down run for a new ship.  The reward for this would be maybe a medal for the crew of this ship.  Then have fleet missions such as stop an enemy attack in a system. Have to hold off the enemy for a week ur fleet playing 24/7 (10-15 ships) haven to stop the enemy ships. Reward for this might be a new ship class for ur fleet.

Now those are just a few thoughts on what i would love to see and hope there is some kind of rare system in play for some things so that when u get that high and ur good enough u get the rewards for it.  Hate seeing a newbie player start the game today power game for a week and be at the same lv as me have the same hard to get items as me because he can buy them on the market for 1 million dollors because he had 50 friends give him money.  Rare things should not be tradeable should be hard to get but when u get u are happy for getting them.  Also a player that plays for say 6 months gets rare missions then someone that plays a month and someone that plays 12 gets even harder but rare missions. 18 months 24 so on all the way up making them harder and harder but the reward gets better and better each time.

PLAYER BASED MISSIONS/REWARD/TIME/
All missions hard quests each quest harder as the months get going.  Each mission ownlly a set number of missions u can do each month. Like 3-5 missions for each month grouping.

Rare item/new skill 6 MONTHS
Rare item/new skill12 MONTHS
Rare item/new positions in federation 18 MONTHS
Rare item/5 new skills 24 MONTHS




SHIP BASED MISSIONS/REWARD/TIME

Escort diplomat from starfleet to planet. Medal for ship 6 MONTHS
Stop raiders from attacking a system convoys Medal and added ship rewards (holodeck stuff)       12 MONTHS
Away mission to planet to support federation teams from enemy attacks. Reward medal promotions handed out for few crew members on mission. ( get set goals/points to get promotion)        18 MONTHS
Covert mission behind enemy lines. Medal and open to new slots in federation positions (higher ranked crew members for command roles)         24 MONTHS



FLEET BASED MISSIONS/REWARD/TIME

Defend planet from attack for 24 hours (wave after wave) New fighter class ships for fleet (fighters)      6 MONTHS
New small ship class (defiant size)      12 MONTHS
Go behind enemy lines and destroy a enemy strong hold /   New ship class (large size ship) 18 MONTHS
Defend system for a week from enemy attacks / New star base for Fleet in set sector        24 MONTHS



Just a few rewards/missions quests i thougt up on the fly.
