Whats the point?
They're completed, done, dusted and gone.
Of course we will get the Kobyashi Maru training sim but beyond that, what could we recreate that wouldnt be boring now?

Id like to save him assuming he has gotten himself back into trouble.
But replaying Best of Both Worlds? Whats the point?
First its in the past. Second it was handled by the Enterprise alone.

Well in terms of the normal game play, I would say no to the ability to go out and do famous missions. Perhaps if that possibility existed within the holodeck, that might be ok. But, I don't simply replaying famous missions in normal gameplay is a good idea.

I don't like the idea of replaying missions, in normal gameplay, from the series; it would interfere with the timeline and STO is set after all of them have taken place anyways. Having a holodeck campaign, as Elessar suggests, wouldn't be bad and could even be an interesting feature. I can't see how there would be much replayabilty value for it though.

I dont even see the replays in the holodeck having much interest.
Either you take over the scenario and change it, whereby it isnt the famous mission any longer. Or you participate and are restricted to a script. Like the movie-game Star Trek Borg. Try to stray from the boundaries Q set and he would push you back to the "script"

Some of us anticipated that there would be fans who wanted to re-visit or re-traces the steps of the favorite crews.
One solution was to provide 'tours' or sightseeing like adventures to these places. Big, easy, family and friend driven sightseeing tours. That these kind of events wouldn't affect the Universe...but just rather serve as fun, entertainment.
Another solution was to get some really top sci-fi/fantasy writers re-tackle the famous places so that new missions to these places could take place. These missions could be handed down from SFHQ or the UFP to cadets on TC missions, solo TC captains, TC Teams and Fleets. These missions affect the universe.
You could do both...and even mix them so that there is small % chance a tour 'could' affect the Universe by a non-standard NPC reaction. A non-standard NPC reaction to a Tour could result in an automatic distress signal of 'all ships' in the area...so the tour is treated to an amazing display of Starfleet coming to thier rescue (maybe inspiring someone who only likes tours to join the Academy and invest more time in playing ).
I believe Grandma, Grandpa and the cat should be able to enjoy a Star Trek Tour with the family and that the MMOG could provide very Vegaslike, minimum 'hands on', simple forms of 'entertainment' to casual gaming, to very complex gaming and even higher levels of canon simulation. --- Statistically there have been enough people who have supported seeing that kind of option on a micro level to indicate that it would be a popular idea on the macro. ---

I think that those types of missions would be fun to have but if you are going to do it. have them as holo novels on the holodeck. wouldnt that solve both sides?

Yeah but folks keep saying that they want to have a chance to affect the universe. So I had to throw in an option how.

[QUOTE] Yes, people want to be able to change the world around them and they should be able to. However, you do not change the future by reliving the past. If you want to relive past events I say do it on the holodeck.

Just to remind : The storyline of the game will be set after the return of Voyager ...
Then you won't be able to do the mission described on the show...
(except maybe if you go back in time, as it seems we may be able to meet the captan Kirk , the captain Archer ...)

I'd say that some of the episode's away missions have repeat content, small variables, basically the same objectives though. We could deliver medical supplies to an outpost in contention and find ourselves once again drawn up to it's defense. Obviously the battles would be different everytime, but there's room to constantly have the same entities in that area cause hostilities in conjunction with escort/delivery missions etc.

I think what would be of far more interest would be doing missions based off the stories from the series.
IE have those mind controlling aliens from TNG 'conspiracy' come back as the end of that episode suggested they would. There's also many other missions that could bring about a sense of nostalgia without having to simply replay the past.
The original idea i think would be much better done as a seperate single player/basic multi player type game.

If we did canon based missions they still couldn't be the same regardless, as we have to recognize that 1-2 decades have passed from the start of TNG up till the point where STO's supposed to start.
