If you missed this, it was a "PS" from Daron Stinnett, Executive Producer Star Trek Online, on the Starship Commission System thread.

"I apologize that we have not yet gotten ourselves organized to adequately support the community. There are many sites out there that we are anxious to support.  Getting our community support function up and running so we can do a better job is a hot topic within the team and we are looking forward to adding the staff and processes that will benefit everyone in these early stages.  I'd like to thank everyone who's been making an effort to cross-post to the various sites and I promise that we'll get our act together soon."
Daron Stinnett Executive Producer Star Trek Online

Dear Daron,

With all do respect, please don't worry about supporting the many STO fan sites that have sprung up. Those were created to fill the information vacuum that exist because you have not created an official and fully functional Star Trek Online/Perpetual website.

I encourage you to look into outsourcing a web design firm to build an initial STO site which has robust features and that you can hire staff to maintain and update. You can hire more web staff later to redo the site at your leisure. Of course, once an "official" (full featured) STO site exist, you can coordinate with the numerous fan sites having them link to the official site.

The important thing to do is make the development process go smoother. This can best be done at this point by getting all of those people that are interested in STO in "ONE" place, namely the single official Perpetual Star Trek Online website. You can still support the fan sites with links and approved fan site art, but people need a single place to come to get first hand development news on STO. And you and your development team have much better things to do (like build a game), than troll a dozen or more fan sites every day.

Please give serious consideration to building an official site SOON.

Some Features:
-Forums (Dev Digest, Planned Features, General Discussion, Suggestions, Off Topic, etc.)
-Official Dev Team Polls/Questioners (Useful as you move forward with development)
-Gallery (Concept Art. 3D Models, Screen Shots, Fan Art, etc.)
-FAQ
-News
-Links

I'm sure there is more that could be added.

Please don't try to spread yourselves out so thin by working all of the fan websites, that'll be such a time sink. The important thing I wanted to stress is that by having a single official site where the Dev Team can go too, would be the most economical and efficient use of their time.

Please consider it.

Thanks

Odee

Concur.  But I am a patient hunter too.  I'd rather PE has a first rate web site, than have them rush into this and see something that works half way.

I would like to see links to what PE considers the "best postings/threads" from fan site forums, suchs STONet, STCom, and others.  At least the postings and threads that have helped PE in their decision making of which direction to go on what ever topic.  That would be a great PR coupe, IMHO.

Who are the greatest web designers in the world???

Get them. :)

Get CERN, Fermilab and NASA and SETI to sponsor it.  Have them pay for it.

I just want the dev team to use there time efficiently. They can't build a game if they are spending all day searching through, and posting on twelve different websites everyday. They need to spend their time actually building a game.  :eyesroll:

Concur.

*waves at Kinneas from "STOned"*

*repeats self* It would be good for the ST:O community if we could have the "best of the best" posts, and/or "contributions" all linked to one common forum.  That forum being Perpetual's.

Hey, lets be honest, there are a lot of us who know just as much as a pro when it comes to making websites.  Why not make a few concepts as say, "HEY P.E. USE ONE OF THESE!"

Its not hard :)  Just use photoshop to get the basic idea down.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand the slang terms used in your comment, please explain your sarcastic response.

I believe that I stated my concern quite clearly, and offered a suggestion.

ITs how it should be for MMOG's to be honest. the MMOG population is so diverse and so large, that the function of fansites as community portals is somewhat diminished, Their function really is for news and and information resrouce. The official forums being the proper place of neutral discussion.

I agree its time for a website.  The information and discussion about this game is going on in too many different locations.  It would be much easier for everyone to have one official site with official forms.  For one thing this form here is far to varied.  THis form is just a jumble of topics and honestly unless you check in here a few times a day you cannot keep up with most of the discussions.  It is more than past time for an official site.

Yep, I'm all for it, let's see those dirty little fansites closed down and limit ourselves to an official forum full of screaming wannabe beta testers and ego driven experts, I'm good for that! :) Don't worry whatsoever about showing an interest in people who choose to visit other sites about your game Perpetual, do as these clowns say, give them a little links page and ask them to send all their own users to the official board- because the fan sites don't want to be successful, lmao, they want to be a gateway to the official forum, that's all, right JazH?

Yeah, you've caught me, let's keep all the discussion about this game on one forum, you can get the fan forums closed down right? Everyone has to make do with the official board and nothing else, how dare you even consider sending a representitive to fan forums.
