Hi, I dont post often in the boards but intrugued by the question, what I DONT WANT TO SEE, I am really looking forward to this game, however i would hate to see "small size" chars graphics like in many other games repeated here (lurriken, gnomes..etc) and attempt to make them cute or whatever, and players would "shrink" themselves even more..... i would hate to see a klingon warrior out muscled by a mini ferengi or something like that. just my 2 cents. Thank you

ABout that gravity thing mentioned earlier, wouldnt it be fun to set the gravity on your ship? Jump and go 30ft in the air!
About the artwork, has anyone made anything yet that they could show or not?

Another interesting graphic choice is the "brightness" of the game. Space is black, stars are white (or close to) and you have a large degree of freedom when it comes to nebulas, planets etc., but that's not what I'm talking about.
If you think of the shows TOS and TNG, they were both pretty bright shows in terms of lighting on the ship and on most away missions, while DS9 and to some degree VOY were darker shows in terms of the character surroundings. Given this, the devs have some options about brightness that not only reflect upon the background of the characters, but probably on the entire interface (menus, LCARS systems etc.)
I haven't really made up my mind about what I prefer, but of the two extremes I suppose I'm more a fan of the darker shades of the coloring spectre. Maybe the brightness tone of the Enterprise show was a good mix. Too bright and happy-go-jolly coloring could border to cartoonish, which nobody like.

Welcome Ken! Since you asked us what we would like to see or not see style wise, I do have one idea: For federation ships, interiors, and so on, perhaps, since this is going to be at a place where there might be some tech advancement, what about taking a stylistic approach to some of the command consoles, even if it's in the holodeck, where consoles are holographically projected? Or what about making an even more immersive Stellar Cartography, where instead of watching the viewscreens, why not simply be able to walk through the stars? I know this can be accomplished on the holodeck, but what about making holography more wide spread on a starship? It could definitely give a feel of advancement since the latest TNG movies features a holographic viewscreen (First Contact) and projectors for personae (Nemesis). It may be a question of simple production, but perhaps giving the starships of the Federation a bit more of an edge technologically. It might keep players interested to see what is 'new' tech wise.
For planets, I agree with all the previous posts. Atmosphere is a definite. Randomly generated planets could get boring, while I understand the development required for creating hundreds of planets is illogical. Since the next idea is connected, how about having a cultural feel in players quarters connecting them to the planets they're from. ie. Vulcan, if it is an initial world, whatever stylistic approach Perpetual takes, banking on the familiar color tones, shapes, and asthetics, perhaps those same asthetics could be applied to the crew quarters. I understand Trill, and Bolian races have next to nothing in regards to cultural asthetics, but hey you guys can get creative there. Basically, if I chose a Vulcan, how about the ability or general default style of the quarters being filled with candles, as well as hues of orang and red, perhaps royal colors as well on the tapestries and carpet? Or if andorian, deep blues and whites on the furniture and so forth? For personal effects, what about crystal growing for Andorians, and other personal effects? Basically, tones of the player's chosen race's planets being represented in their personal life (such as was seen in Spock's quarters in Star Trek 6, candles, elaborate glass goblets, Vulcan insignia on the wall, even etched glass with the vulcan insignia) I think that minor touches of player race colors and so forth could really add a lot, which has been a question on the mind of some posters here from the beginning. So instead of having a default starfleet room, what if we had the choice of choosing a race-related room and decorated accordingly? So I guess those are my two cents for now. Your portfolio is very impressive and I have a better feel of STO than I did before. (Porbably because a main concern was the asthetic value of the game) Well, good luck and have fun!
Michael

Ken please make the UI as minimal as possible. Seems like many MMOGs continue to tradition of having a lot of UI on the screen. Something like MAYA's Hotbox would be a nice and welcome change of pace.
For those of you not familiar with MAYA the Hotbox is basically a floating menu that displays when you press down the Spacebar. The menus become visible in a clockwise pattern around your mouse pointer. The most important buttons appear closest to the mouse pointer, and as you move your mouse over each button, a subsequent menu branch appears. Basically no matter where your mouse pointer is located, pressing Spacebar gives you instant access to MAYA's menu. I REALLY enjoy this kind of UI and would love to see something similar adapted for STO.

Also, I have one more idea: For Starbases, there are always lounges facing interior stardocks. It would be nice to see stylistic renderings of these, perhaps also using holography as a form of entertainment (not the cheap dancing girls Riker had, something like a background Andorian duel or alien sporting event) also, since a starbase is bigger than a starship (obviously), why not make the hallways larger too, so NPC aliens, large ones, could use them easier (assuming there will be NPC aliens later on in future expansions). Basically, bigger hallways with a stylistic difference than those on starships. Just a thought.
