the no warp in a solar system could be like a port speed.

or you could collide with chunks of ice/rock in the ort cloud

Not nessesarily collide, the Navgational Deflector was made to move things out of the way in situations like that.

asteroids are too large to push out of the way especially if ur going at warp speed because you don't have the much time to move it.

But if you go through an area with SMALL asteroids, you're fine.

What I want to know is if you can go to warp if say, one of your necelles has been destroyed. Can you make half speed, full speed or no speed?

Think about a Jet that lost an engine, it can still fly and even at the same speed.  All you need to do is increase power to the intact one.

you may start spinning in circles if not used properly, like what happen to the runabout Picard was using in 1 of those temporal episodes.

But is the maneuvering jets work, it will stay in place.

the warp field geometry will be all messed up with a single nacelle that isn't centered on the ship.

However there are some classes that have 1 nacelle, oh whats the name?......Freedom perhaps....???..?

that's because the nacelle is centered with the ship, not hanging off 1 side.

almost always when a ship has a nacelle damaged while at warp they drop out of warp because they can't maintain the field symmetry with a nacelle that isn't centered.

In STIV: "The Voyage Home" they didn't have any trouble going to warp within the earth's atmosphere.

The only thing is, how could they go to warp while still in Earth's atmosphere?

especially without causing a sonic boom because they'd have to be going faster than mach 1
