When I say you probably can't, it's because it's usually against the games rules to do so. If something is changed besides the ui, the patcher usually fixes the change, if they allow you to modify the ui(like WoW) they have still have some restrictions. Most 3rd party mods are illegal to use and usually ends up with you getting banned, if they can find you.

If you really want to play a romulan, play a vulcan. If you want to play a klingon, play a tellerite

Sadly we'll need to wait for the expansion for the official romulans/klingons.

[QUOTE]

I have to tell you. This isn't much better than the suggestion to just RP your desired race. Not much of a solution.

You want a solution to people wanting to play as a Romulan or a Klingon, then add them into the game as playable races. And no devs don't go and say "but we did include them and you complained." That was because you had turned klingons into another federation race instead of a unqiue culture.  Put the time in and create at least one other faction.

Plus the person who said you could model or modified your character to look Romulan/Klingon has no idea how much effort it takes to develop a half decent character.. expessically when STO will probably be using the latest in graphics making it very hard to pull off a good-looking acceptable model

Romulans and Klingons simply cannot work as reskinned Federation. There will be differences that simply cannot occur at the client-side level. Cloaking device? Location? It would look strange to have a bunch of Romulans on Earth. This idea is poorly thought out and quite atrocious.

Ellessar, I agree that the only way to comfort people is to include new factions. I don't mind the developer decision much myself, but I see precisely why you disagree with it. I am a cooperative person, plain and simple. I never found it as appealing to go against someone else, and I always liked working together in order to crush an enemy. Star Trek: Online just seems like it will have such a cooperative aspect to it, what would be a dream to me. Even if there were multiple factions, I just don't see myself as the sort of guy who would deal with that much. So I would rather see the game in my hands earlier. The PvP Perpetual has planned would be good enough for me, but I am probably the least demanding PvP person.

The issue that worries me more is just business in general. I could see people deserting due to lack of multiple factions. There is a risk at least. Less people means less money, and it may mean that I wouldn't be able to play. I would hate that, but I suppose Perpetual are the ones who have their eyes on the bottom line far more than I do. If they are taking the risk, I would like to at least think it isn't a suicidal one. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. A lot of that does depend on the game, something they know a lot more about than us.

The big problem I see making Klingon and Romulan Empires as an expansion instead of at release, is allot of people jumping ship to play them. Sure we may have more then one character to play with in this game. The few that stay with their main though, Federation, will be playing on Ghost ships for awhile. I would love to see Perpetual get these two main Empires/playable races ingame at release, and have less content ingame, then the way they are planning on doing it now. As your character is the backbone to the game, seems foolish to add playable races, two major ones like these, in some future expansion. It will split the community in my opinion.

It is Perpetual's business risk, and they have the most to lose. I am simply going to cross my fingers and hope that their risk pays off. I want to see a lot of content for the Federation and each faction, and I believe expansions are really the best way to deliver that.
