Your sitting in a on your ship, when all of a sudden the ships systems start to lose power. You see flickering lights and panels all around the room, and you rush open of the bar to see what is going on. In the Hall crewmen are running back and forth, as you can see more systems going down fast. You know engineering is close by, so you quickly head there. One you pass the doors to Engineering, you see to your shock an Alien blob like creature wrapped around the Warpcore. Security is there already, and they have been trying to stun the creature to get it off the Core, but it seems like it is feeding off the phaser beams too.

So what would you do to figure this problem out?
What tyrp of creature is it? It's an unknown, but from what you can see it's likes energy.

I'd shut down the warp core. It seems like it would be feeding off of it.

I might also consider tossing SirCedric2 at it as bait. Get it off the warp core. Just kiddin'. =p

lol your too fun Tal.

But what if that isn't the only power source it likes, after all it did feed off the phaser power too, so cutting the core power would stop it from there, but it would move to the next best thing. Can we all say Battery Backup Power Cells.

Once it is on the backup batteries, you reactivate the warp core, initiate a force field around the creature, and shut off the back-up batteries. Then, it'll have no food. As an added bonus, you could transport the creature into space, or flood the area with noxious gases.

Seal off the area...

Redirect all power elsewhere...

Then do a full system overload on the Warpcore and see how much power this creature can handle.

Most things can only have too much before they get full  ;)

Wouldn't overloading the warp core have the unfortunate side effect of BLOWING UP THE SHIP?

not necessarily.  You could probably overload it to a certain point before it would blow up.  Everything has its limit...but somethings can go beyond that limit for a short time.

besides...IM GIVIN ER ALL SHES GOT CAP'IN

now to answer the thread.

First of all seal Engineering, tight. Close the radiation doors.

Safety of the ship and people within side the ship comes first understanding comes later.

The Alien is suxing on the energ of the warp core. I would order Transporters to get a lock onto the alien and warp it into space.

If that doesn't work, I would eject the core.

If you turn off the warp core it would just go to the nearest wall panel, or even start suxing and killing people, (humans have bio-energy with in them.)

Once the core is ejected the power would be gone and more likly the alien would be dead.  I would then order a limited sensor scan to look for more of them. If safe I would start working on getting our core back.  If not I would order the core to detonate. Then proceed to the nearest station. We be able to get there on impulse and send a call for assistance.

First Step: Find out how long the warp core will last with it sucking energy from it.
Second Step: Find out where the hell it came from and why it's now feeding on the core.
Third Step: Give it an alternate feeding source and coax it onto that so it's not messing with the big blue thing that can make the ship go 'pop'
Fourth step: fly it to somewhere it can feed and live
Fifth step: Save Ship!
Sixth Step: Down a bottle of bloodwine.

:perks a brow:  Didn't they run into something like this and got it to go away by 'souring the milk'?

They did something with the flow of the warp core like reversing polarity and it caused the entity to not like the taste.

Gordi and Prof. Brames (sp?) did what you speak of.

Difference is the entity is a space life form it lives and breaths in space. The entity was attached to the ship on the out side.

This thing is on the inside of your ship.

All space life forms use the same patern of energy Gordi and Broms just changed the energy so it would be forign to it.

To do that in this case would mean turning ur warp core in side out and decomprassourize the main engineering just to paralize it.

If its a threat to the ship you must deal with the threat and ask questions later.

somthing called a Transporter. Use it! That is, after activating the back up fusion reactors to power it.

but what do you do once you've transported it?

we can surmise that the creature is in some sort of trouble, this is some sort of last measure otherwise we'd have tonnes of reports of creatures sticking to warp cores. We can also surmise that it's not attacking the ship, there's much worse things it could do to the ship than drain some energy from it.

so IMO leaving it out in space is a very unstarfleet thing to do, same with just killing it. works on a Klingon vessel but not a federation vessel, i'm sure th entire crew would be done for cruelty to animals or even worse if it's sentient.

If worst came to worst i'd limp the starship to a starbase and hand the whole thing over to starfleet science and see if they can't work it out. under no cirscumstances would i just leave it floating through space or outright killing it just because the lights are dimming.

'VOY: Nothing Human' was based on this subject actually, the EMH used a hologram of a Cardassian doctor to help get an alien off of Torres. The alien was hurt and was using her body as a life support system, the EMH wanted to find a way to get it off her without killing either of them but the Cardassian hologram didn't care if the alien died. The EMH had federation programming, the Cardassian learnt his trade in Bajoran death camps, clearly the federation program had much more regard for all life forms. Granted it's also because of his hippocratic oath (I wonder if they actually make EMHs take those oaths or just program it in there) but as the Cardassian showed, even that oath is a Human concept.

not every ship captain is human lol
though like I said if its a threat to the ship then you have kill it.
