| Quote (vespasian @ Aug. 12 2006, 9:08 pm) | As far as the future goes, I'm surprised that no one has suggested Vulcan or Romulan collections. ¿I think that there's a lot of potential (if also some potential overlaps between the two concepts, during a couple of ENT and TNG stories).
A Romulan series could be built around the episodes:
ENT: "Minefield" "The Forge" "Awakening" "Kir'Shara"
TOS: "Balance of Terror" "The Enterprise Incident"
TNG: "Enemy Mine" "The Defector" "Unification" "The Pegasus"
DS9: "In the Pale Moonlight" "Inter Arma Silent Leges"
VGR: "Eye of the Needle"
There are some wonderful stories in this group, as well--I think some of the strongest eps each series has to offer, in fact--and its all a great prequel to Star Trek Nemesis. |
I agree. In fact, I did suggest a Romulan Fan Collective when I did the survey. The Romulans have always been one of my favorites and I have always felt they haven't gotten enough attention. The Klingons have had games based on them (Klingon Honor Guard and Klingon Academy) scores of books (I.K.S. Gorkon series, etc.) and tons of memorabilia. While all this is great for one of the best species ever created in Star Trek I feel that the Romulans deserve equal levels of attention and they have never gotten it (with the exception of the Rihannsu series in which the last book of the series is released next month.) Here is what I think a great Romulan Fan Collective would look like. DISC 1 ST: ENT ¿Minefield¿ ST: TOS ¿Balance of Terror¿ ST: TOS ¿The Enterprise Incident¿ ST: TNG ¿The Neutral Zone¿ DISC 2 ST: TNG ¿The Enemy¿ ST: TNG ¿The Defector¿ ST: TNG ¿Data¿s Day¿ DISC 3 ST: TNG ¿Unification, Part I¿ ST: TNG ¿Unification, Part II¿ ST: TNG ¿Face of the Enemy¿ ST: VOY ¿Eye of the Needle¿ DISC 4 ST: DS9 ¿Improbable Cause¿ ST: DS9 ¿The Die is Cast¿ ST: DS9 ¿In the Pale Moonlight¿ ST: DS9 ¿Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges¿ These were not only great episodes but they really gave real insight into Romulan culture and how their government works. As you can see, this would be a full Collection as the previous 4 have had only 4 discs with a max of 4 episodes each. The only drawback would be the exclusion of the "Babel One"/"United"/"The Aenar" trilogy which also gave insight into the Romulans especially in the scene in which Admiral Valdore explains how he was removed from the Senate and the several scenes with Valdore and the Senator arguing over the project. The Romulan collection is the collection I've been hoping to see since the first Fan Collective was announced. I hope they do it.

Those Romulan sets sound awesome. Hopefully the ones they have out now will sell well enough for them to keep releasing more. I own the Borg and the Time Travel and my only qualm thus far is the repeat episode. Plan to by more! -e

My idea for a fan collective series is called "That Darn Transporter". It would feature all the episodes where a transporter accident resulted in something screwy. All five series would be included.
From Enterprise:
-Hoshi starts to disappear after using the transporter for the first time.
From The original series: -Kirk is split into "Good Kirk" and "Bad Kirk" -Kirk is nearly killed when he is on another ship headed for a planet eater, when the transporter malfunctions at a critical time -Sulu and others nealry freeze to death on a planet, as the transporter isn't working.
From The Next Generation:
- Two Will Rikers - Picard, Ro, Guinan, and Keiko become little kids -Transporter-phobic Mr. Barclay sees something weird in the matter stream -Mr. Scott emerges from the transporter after 75 years
From DS9:
-A transporter malfunction sends Sisko, Dax, and Bashir to the time of the Bell riots
From Voyager:
-Tuvok and Nellix get smushed together to create Mr. Tuvix.
(I am sorry-I am not familiar enough with Star Trek to know the names of all these episodes).

kind of approach, with lots of behind the scenes as well and best interviews
By the way, I edited my list at least twice since the original posting

About the DVD SET PACKAGING
PS: The best ultimate DVD set packaging would be all discs in individual standard closable thin CD/DVD boxes, all wrapped together in some closed slipcase, and all incorporated if necessary into whatever final exterior practical and durable box shell. Something close to the Original Classics season sets, but instead using safer and more practical CD/DVD thin boxes like are sold in office stores like Staples, and the type Verbatim uses to store their recordable CDs and DVDs; where one does not have to risk damaging discs by twisting them out of not well thought out jammed center boxed. Right now, to retrieve a DVD from the classic Star Trek series, one has two choices, to twist and risk damaging the disc data, or break the center not so release button. And since the classic series is so close to CD/DVD size inside those colorful exterior boxes, they might as well use the real thing which is much safer, by holding thin CD/DVD boxes in one inner curved hand and gently push the center which release discs with no stress at all to discs

I haven't seen much about this new release around, though perhaps I have missed it: Star Trek: Fan Collective - Captain's Log is a DVD collection scheduled for release by Paramount Pictures in the United States and Canada on 24 July 2007. This set will contain episodes from Star Trek: Enterprise, Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager. The fans and captains have spoken! Not only have Star Trek fans voted online for their all-time favorite captain episodes from all five Star Trek series, but each show's legendary leader William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and Scott Bakula has carefully chosen their favorite episode, which resulted in Star Trek: Fan Collective Captain's Log. Special Features- Interviews with Star Trek captains. - Episode introductions by Star Trek captains. - Introduction by William Shatner. - "The Importance of 'The Captain's Log'" with William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Bakula. - "Captain Kirk's Legacy" with William Shatner. Cover art here. I'm really excited about this! It sounds awesome. I can't wait to hear which episodes were chosen, and especially a release date for Region 2!

I can't wait to hear which episodes were chosen, and especially a release date for Region 2! ? | Play.com can notify you when the R2 release date is announced: http://www.play.comIt shouldn't be long after R1, which these places online are advertising as July 24... www.tvshowsondvd.comwww.amazon.comBut check out this link... www.bbfc.co.uk...looks like it will feature over an hour of special features. 10 favourites voted for online at Star Trek.com plus one each chosen by the five Captains. Shatner has chosen 'The City on the Edge of Forever', Stewart 'In Theory', Brooks 'Far Beyond the Stars', Mulgrew 'Counterpoint' and Bakula 'Judgment'. We still don't exactly know what the remaining 10 episodes will be... but based on these extras, I think we can expect 'Balance of Terror' & 'The Enterprise Incident' from TOS, 'Chain of Command' and 'Darmok' from TNG, 'The Omega Directive' and 'Flashback' from VOY and 'These are the Voyages...' from ENT. That just leaves two from DS9 and possibly another from ENT. Now if only CBS would reunite the cast of ENT for a Direct-to-DVD movie (like Babylon 5 The Lost Tales). I'd love to see the NX-01's Romulan War stories... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-XV5Yvm7ZI
