More than likely something like this has been done before but there is not one in this forum so I thought I would make one. I am just curious as to how many people have actually been to one and what they thought of it. Unfortunately, I have never been to one since I live in area where the closest convention is usually two to three states away that I know of. I had a chance to go to one once with a friend and it was going to have Robert Picardo at it who I really would have liked to have seen, but my friend just dropped the idea and I did not find out why until later. The time when we were supposed to go was around when he found out his wife had cheated on him so that is what shot it down. Let that be a lesson people, when you cheat everyone suffers(even people trying to go to their first ST convention )

garrett wang was hilarious & very down to earth!.. he was my favorite. and he was a last-minute addition! .. didn't even expect him to be there! as for connor trinneer... can't say the same, unfortunately. i'm hoping he was just having a bad day. he said some funny stories, but overall.. came-off a little too arrogant for someone who's show was about to be cancelled. he wouldn't even allow flash photography during the autograph session (reason why the pic is blurry).

I have been going to the Star Trek Grand Slam/Sci-Fi Summit since 1998 and it has always been a great experience. I have met most of the actors from all of the Star Trek series, plus I have met several actors from other series like Star Wars, SG-1, Buffy/Angel and other series. Many of the actors have a comedic side and it comes out on stage. Robert Picardo and Ethan Phillips are really funny, especially when they are together. The fans are great, once you arrive you are among friends. Some of the actors will talk to you before they ask for questions from the audience and others open it up to questions right away. You can get some free autographs and others you have to pay for. Of course there are venders who sell all kinds of related items. Creation Entertainment also has some photo ops with an actor that you can purchase.
I do hope you are able to make it to a convention sometime soon, because you will have a wonderful time, whether you go by yourself or if you have someone along for the trip.
I can only speak for Creation, because I have only been to conventions put on by them. They will allow you to take still pictures of the actors as they walk onto the stage for a few minutes before they start chatting with the audience. They won't allow you to shoot any video at the conventions however.

hmmm - thats not so good.... .... but, liek you say, maybe he was just having a bad day! Lol Garrett Wang sounds hilarious - I watch him on the VOY DVD interviews and he just seems so nice! So, did you buy the photo-op things from creationent or were you allowed to just have your photo taken with them?

No, but I've always wanted to go to one. I guess I don't live in a big enough city to have one here.

I'm looking forward to going to another convention soon though. I'm going to try to get to the one in Baltimore. Eventually though I want to go to Las Vegas. |
I can kinda understand no flash photos. That's gotta be annoying to have bright flashes when you're trying to talk to people and write. I know flashes give me headaches. Anyhoo, I've been to only been to 3 conventions. All about 10 yrs ago. When I went I only had enough money to get in the door and maybe buy a small item and one time I had enough for an autograph. The three I went to were small. Only one actor each time: Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, and Marina Sirtis (she autographed my Imzadi book for me). Those people were a riot. Marina Sirtis could probably do stand up. She allowed photos before she started talking and did all these crazy poses and such. (I was too poor to have a camera with me. ) She even auctioned off her water glass! For charity of course. I saw Frakes with my sister. She had to drive me there anyway. I got her to go in with me by buying her a tribble. She had a great time though since Frakes brought his wife on stage with him. She watched the soap opera that his wife was on. I don't remember much about the McFadden convention other than she talked a bit about getting bumped off the show for a year because she was being too assertive. She had a great sense of humor though.

I'm sooo jealous! Marina Sirtis sounds hilarious! I'd like to meet Gates McFadden one day. The one I went to in Toronto was great, Patrick Stewart was awesome! I was so starstruck!!

I'm going to the Grand Slam XIII or whatever this coming weekend. First Trek convention I'll have ever been to. See you there, maybe? I've ordered an autograph of Connor Trinneer, and I hope he was just having a bad day back then. I should remember to bring my own camera, though, eh?

Who knows Stewarttt, we may see each other at the convention this weekend.
The two best people for telling jokes are Ethan Phillipps and Marina Sirtis.
