Well we knew we could modify your ships, but read the following:

16. Will star ships be customizable or will there be a list to choose from?

Upgrading, modifying, refitting, and repairing starships are important parts of engineering. When a player finally obtains his first command, he'll likely receive an old jalopy. Working with his crew to evolve one's ship is another dimension to evolving one's character.

20. Will players be able to find more powerful, unusual weapons and rare items and artifacts?

Yes. Much of this type of equipment will come out of ongoing modification upgrades, or battlefield hybridization of alien and Federation technology.

So bottom line is this. You will start off with a ship that needs major work, and you can end up with a ship that has a ton of Alien tech along with some of the Federations best in it. I CAN'T wait! hehe.

Just as long as I can eventually reconfigure/refit a ship so that it uses a quantum slipstream drive flawlessley, has transphasic torpedoes, has neutronium hull plating, uses subatomic disruptors, has regenerative shields, and uses Omega moleclues for power, I will be happy. :p

Yup, I really liked the sound of hybrid technology, it makes sence that players will upgrade their ships themselves, sounds like this is going to bee some sort of loot system replacement to me for doing missions, instead of getting an item the ship can research a technology aquired and configure ships systems with what you've learnt from it, this stuff sounds really exciting :)

I guess some of you might see this as a good thing but I think it's a further deviation from canon than having the Klingons in Starfleet.

Aside from Voyager, a ship lost in the Delta Quadrant with no resources from Starfleet, which needed to adapt tech to help it on its way, when have you seen a Federation Starship chugging around with a piece of Alien tech strapped on the side, I'm very wary about this.

actually, the episode 'Pegasus' showed the Ent-d install the prototype cloaking device with no problems, this indicates that starfleet crews are quite capable of making changes to the ship, the USS Defiant is a good example of a ship with non.standard equipment, not only did it have a Romulan cloaking device, it also had ablative armour added. We've also seen wesley Crusher in a few episodes of TNG come up with ways of improving systems, it seem pretty logical for me for all ships to be like this. From military experiance on warships, each one is different in some ways, mechanics on ships make improvements all the time, although minor usually, I can imagine this would be the same in the Star Trek universe too.

Technically, there is no "official" canon for events after Nemesis. In essence, PE can (with consent from Paramount and a few other people) make its own series of events.

I have no problem installing Starfleet technology suricata, but upgrading our ships with allsorts of Alien Tech? And if I recall correctly that phase cloak was illegal Federation technology.

And FlowOfCash, what has that got to do with anything? We know that... hence the whole arguments that followed after the klingon 'revelation' my point is, aside from Voyager, we don't see Starfleet routinely strapping alien parts onto its ships.

The phase cloak was illegal, my point was the crew had no problem installing it, which shows the crew is more than capable of adding new technolgies to the ship, also, the devs said hybrid federation/alien technology, this would imply starfleet technology improved using knowledge learnt from studing alien technology. Sure we saw the Voyager do it more than any other ship, but it makes no sence for a ship to make an improvement and have starfleet remove it if it makes the ship perform better. As long as the ships don't start getting new alien hybrid hulls and the likeand the improvements come more as ships systems and capabilites then I'll be happy :)

Though phase cloak was illegal, that still didnt stop a people in the Federation from developing it. Of course, it ended up blowing up and the crew of the Pegasus ended up revolting because of the illegality of the project.

But yes, you do have a point. Starfleet doesnt really go around adopting/adapting technology from other species. The Federation is all about diplomacy and exploration, hence the reason they havent adopted (for example) disruptors (which are more powerful than phasers from what I know).

And hence all things have consequences too.

Lol!! You don't ask for much!

It will be great if you could retrieve transwarp coils from derelict borg vessels and if it could last a week or so, then you could get around really quickly - although the moment derelict borg ships start becoming a 'normal' occurence, realism goes out the window and repetitiveness takes over, so maybe not!!

I'm still worried about the diversity of federation ships that'll be available though. I suppose for your first command you'll get a Saber class - like in Starfleet Command III

Depending on how long the game itself lasts, I am sure we would at the very least be able to refit ships so they have transwarp capabilities.

I dont really expect the ship of my dreams (posted above) to become a reality. The stuff on that ship is mostly from the 29-30th century. I would have to do some serious dev butt-kissing for one of those

modifications are fine, just so long as the ship i'm on doesnt eventually look like it warped through several alien ships.

Altough the idea of the Defiant growing tentacles is amusing, you are safe. the FAR majority of the tweaks we are planning are much more subtle than that.

excellent, i just didnt want a voyageresque borg implant on the hull. more subtle changes sounds much better.

i wonder if engineers will be able to fail in attempts to add things to the ship and if it'll have any unforseen effects on the ship.
