Ok remember the episodes where crew members would tell things to the computer directly insted of using consoles.. like.. say for some bizzare reason their the only one aboard. Like they would tell the computer to fire weapons or remodulate shields etc. This system could be for when only a single crew member is on-board.. say like the Captain.. but he or she does not want to wait for the rest of her crew.. she should be able to control all aspecs of her ships with basic controls w/o the help of crew members. Once they arrive--prefferably beginning with senior officer--they can take their positions and help the captain navigate or fire weapons depending on their position... see what I am getting at?

What if instead the player would take a shuttle craft and go out on a mission alone? To me that would seem a little more realistic. If you didn't need a crew why bother ever getting one?

I would hope that if a single player is aboard a starship then an NPC crew would be present to take care of commands he/she couldn't possibly handle alone. -------------- http://www.startrek-online.net

The starship is such an important aspect of the game that I would be willing to submit that if you are unable to get the minimum number of crew members aboard to man the stations then that ship should not be able to be taken out of space dock. If you allow NPCs to populate position then you open the door for individual command of a starship and many players will choose to grab thier own ship even if it operates at a lower effenciency. =/\= ChessMess ---------------- Member of the Official Star Trek Online Advisory Board Founder Star Trek Online Universe - The internet's first STO Fansite Http://www.StarTrekOnlineUniverse.com or Http://online.stgu.com Founder Star Trek Gaming Universe - The largest Trek gaming focused site on the Internet! Exactly! I think almost every player would have their own ship which defeats the purpose of being online.

Simple- DON'T let players take command positions in the first release of this game. I've written an article on this elsewhere, I'll translate it to here soon.

Single players should not be able to engage on missions with starships, period. The only thing that they might be allowed to do is take their ship from one base of operations to another. This is only to prevent forcing the whole crew from sitting around and twiddling their thumbs waiting to arrive.
Of course, random encounters could solve that dilemma too.

Don't forget about the idea to have casual players "spawn" onto starships and take up positions. If the ship becomes under populated and cannot be run then maybe it should automatically set course for nearest spacestation and dock.
Also I think that individal players should be able to pick up solo or very small group missions outside of the starship. Example like I said on an another forum would be a Medical Officer taking a mission to provide medical care on a backwater world, a shuttle would be required of course to get there. Also there should be missions that can be done aboard the ship, but not require the ship going anywhere. Like Science Officers compiling data of the surounding area or something, engineers upping effeciency of the ship, all these could provide useful xp and not need alot of others to be there.

I, for one will rather work in the method well known as 'if u want it done, do it yourself' I played lot in Klingon Academy, and hell, for me its NO PROBLEM to command the whole ship alone lol... I can easily take care of engineering, tactical, helm and so on alone.. Only thing which IS MISSING on all single player games here, and would give SAGNIFICANT advantage to full stuffed starship, is 'multitasking' meaning that I could have 2-4 tactical officers, while each has it's arc (aft, forward, starboard and so) which means I could fire simultanously on many targets, just like in movies and in reality (F15, 16 and Migs all support this long time ago lol).. Another usage for multitasking, is mission: for example something like the mission on Bridge Commander where I had to protect a meeting between Federation, Romulan and Klingon abassadors from attacking Cardassian ships: it will force the captain to devide the cew: while some go on away mission as ambassadors to nagotiate peace/cease fire/allinance etc, the crew will have to defend it? and maybe even to add some difficulties like 2 fronts or so.. which would force the ship to launch few shuttlecrafts to assist? Such strategy would allow every1 on the ship to be really involved and have influence on the performance. What you think?
