Just something I found humorous:  On that site linked to in the first post, they point out that the asteroid explodes (and Luke's hand is injured) prior to the visible beam hitting the target, but never once do they consider that it may have been an FX error...

Even though it is now canon that they are in fact FTL weapons.  The AOTC:ICS put that to rest.

Often, TOS era movies are used to argue against ST tech, but the First Contact/Insurrection/Nemesis era is strangely forgotten...

Then argue with FC, In, and Nem.  We're not stopping anyone from arguing with them.

as it stand the Last movie and the accompany material put a nail into that coffin stacking the odds against the Trek universe.

Yes it is.  There are rumors that we're finally going to see a BDZ in action.  And the battle in the very first scene is supposed to be way intense; it's supposed to have thousands of ships and even a planet with a shield protecting it.

*wonders what the Ep. III ICS will be like*

Funny since I comparing AOTC to the TNG already!!! As it stand the TOS seem alot more Powerful.

Just compare Doomday Machine to Borg, or Verga to Specie 8427...Kirk faced greater menaces and would at least give the Empire a run for their money..
