I suppose us Trek gaming guru's should have saw this coming ... But we didn't. I am an admiral for what remains one of the largest Trek fleets around -- the 11thFleet-Spartan Vanguard. http://www.svcommand.comI was founder of the Brotherhood of Trans-Atlantic Knights -- a two-year-old worldwide gaming guild with 27 members that merged with the Vanguard six weeks ago. I am also the Unity Team Lead Admin/Director -- an SFC3 mod with over 15,000 downloads on STDG, GameSpot, sfc3files and CNet. The mod, sponsored by the Star Trek Gamers Directory, began production last November and has nearly 400 ships and is a revamp of the popular TNZ by CaptainKoraH. http://www.trek-gamers/unityBut today's MMORPG news was the stake in the heart of Trek fleets who have suffered through the Viacom/ACTI lawsuit in the last year ... Not only can't we NOT buy the last series of Activision games anymore expect USED, on EBay or if you are lucky, somewhere in the bottom bin of the discount rack at Target ... But, today's news from Paramount and it's Viacom parent company was the Coup de. Victor1st, the director of the Star Trek Gamers Directory puts it this way. | Quote | | Well, that tears it, the last one to leave Star Trek gaming please turn off the lights. | http://www.perpetualent.com/pages/news.htmlhttp://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/gaming/news/article/6630.htmlWill the last fleet please turn out the lights.

It is an issue...but more than one company makes games, and the problem Activsion has is they cant agree with anyone, conflict of interests...and it is very expensive to by gameing rights....
Not to much we can do about it....Just keep the people interested through MODs....

We won't make it three years ... As admin for one of the most popular SFC3 mods, I can tell you it won't happen. Too many other games. The 11th has already turned to World of Warcraft, the upcoming Rome Total War and Freelancer mods. Anyone need a cheap set of admirals bars? For sale: Great discount.

Well if you just give up yes we are doomed....
And besides how is Trek Gameing doomed for good?? So people play the other games in the mean time...When the Trek MMORPG comes out I know alot of trekkies will buy it, and play it...It might sell slow to start, but it will probably do better than any other Trek game....

Uni, I have hung on through it all. The Taldren debacle with the 'testers' patches, the ACTI lawsuit, the lack of support from ACTI. Unity and 6 other SFC3 mods are there. We have shipyards at STGD with 700+ships in them. THAT is not the issue. THE GAME ISN'T BEING SOLD ANYMORE. THERE IS NO NEW BLOOD. The game engine is old and buggy. Give up? You expect modders to hang out for three more years without source code? Do you expect entire fleet structures to be alive in three years? Even the largest Trek fleets are in trouble -- all of them. **snickers**

Uni, we can't make a Trek game without getting sued by Paramount. I am not doubting it's the future popularity of the game announced officially today. What I am saying is that three years is too long.

I meant Make your own, dont give it out to anyone or sell for commercial use.....and give it to Paramount...They sue you, take your game and mass produce and sell it...

You two speak as though this is the only Trek game on the horizon. Odds are, someone will lease the license to make a single-player game well before the release of the MMORPG. So cheer up--it's not the end of the world we're talking about.

The only new game on the horizon is Raven Night and Nightsoft's Bridge Commander II, a complete revamp.

I'm not a big fan off mmorpg, so I hope they release a good single player game in the mean time.
