By add Phaser so you can hit a target that is behind you would make the fighter bigger and a easier target for the starship. Fighters depend more on their speed to hit targets. |
Good point, never thought of that. Still, a phaser strip doesn't take up that much room... granted, it's quite deep in the hull, and the generator has to be somewhere, but you could have just one or two on a slightly larger fighter, could you not?

Remember the bigger the ship the problems that can occur to damage the ship plus more crew invole the the ship. Fighters were and are meant to reduce the lost of allied life. Even in DS9 the runabout still can't fire all around them but the do have two foward phaser and one aft phaser. But look at the size of it. Remember back during TOS the power plants had to be bigger than want the were is DS9. due to Tech.

Yeah, but surely one man can operate a Runabout on his own? Or do you need at least two crewmembers, I forget... didn't like Deep Space Nine that much... if it's all about being a one-manned ship, then something slightly bigger, like a Runabout, could do the job well. I mean, increase the size to Runabout size and what more do you get: warp engines, all-round phaser protection, a replicator, a transporter system for emergency beam-out, a bunk, a conference room in the back... it's Star Trek's answers to a mobile caravan... janusultima: two things. Firstly, I just got the name, very nice indeed. Shame, though, that you and your tail end have both been obliterated by antimatter explosions... oh well. Secondly, I know what you mean about the slow photon torpedoes, especially on the Phantom Type-III. I want to kill Starships quicker than this! Damn it!

Your right about maybe have a sighter larger fighter but fighters are designed to fight in strike run. Mult. hit in short amount of time weakens enemy ships faster. I think they should have an option to tell the other fighters what to do. Like the option in SFBC.

...or "Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter", another good flight simulator. Then again, while being a hit-and-run fighter, the missions on "Shattered Universe" go on long enough to warrant a stronger vessel! Not only that, but some of the later missions ask you to take on four capital Starships in your humble fighter... yikes indeed.

Looks a little dusty in here... I shot constantly at a phaser bank on the underside of a Miranda-class Starship and it stopped firing after about three hits, and I was still within range, it could of (and should of) decimated me but I disabled it. I think you can disable parts of the Starships. For example, the damage you create on saucer sections, part of the section that explodes has a phaser bank on it and it becomes useless once it explodes. I'd say that this game didn't need tweaking in the Starship areas. More variety, that's what it needs.
