A guide, or something that tells when you get upgrades

oh, i don't know about that. all i can tell you is that the BEST ship to use is the phantom type 3. it destroys any fighter with ONE torpedo shot, it's especially best to use on the last mission, "mirror, mirror", it has the longest phaser range too.

"Wormhole" is tough. The Phantom Type-III is a great fighter to use, as is the Romulan Shrike Type-III because of it's cloaking device that comes in handy. Here are some tips for getting better upgrades and promotions to use on later, more challenging missions:

Load up your game where you are stuck on "Wormhole", and then go to the mission select viewscreen. Go back to some of the easier, earlier missions and select your best fighter. Then play through the easier, earlier missions, concentrating on accuracy with your weapons (don't fire randomly off into space) and the time in which you complete the mission. If you do well enough, Sulu will promote you and rate you to fly the advanced fighters. Some good missions for this little tactic are:
- "Fire and Ice"
- "The Way of All Empires"
- "Balok's War"
Using this, you can upgrade your fighters until you have all the upgrades in the shuttlebay, therefore meaning that you can get on with the later missions with ease. Still, "Wormhole" is very difficult. It took me several tries to complete it, and I think I did it with either the Phantom Type-III or the Orion Corsair Type-II, if that helps. If you don't get promotions and upgrades from going back to earlier missions on "Easy", try upping the difficulty level, too. Sulu likes it when you do that.

Thanks, I'll try that. I'm on hard, so I cant use that, but I never knew anyothing other than bonus objectives. I got past wormhole, and all I need are promotions and orion 3. I agree phantom is best. Wondering: second to last mission, what ship do you use? I've been using phantom, since its best on fighters, but wraith is good with capitals.

I used the Romulan Shrike Type-III on "Vortex"... I assume it's "Vortex" that you are referring to? It can be very tough, since you have to destroy four Starships, an absolute ton of fighters, and then avoid the large ships when the cutscene kicks in at the end (I won't spoil it for you). Anyway, the Shrike is good because you can use the homing torpedoes on fighters and Starships (press X), the pulse disruptors are great for dogfights (press square) and the cloaking device can be used to sneak up behind the Starships without being torn to pieces... that, plus when the warp core breach cutscenes kick in, you can cloak to make sure that nobody is shooting you when you can't see what you're doing.

The last mission is a long slog through waves and waves of fighters. Be either the Phantom Type-III or the Romulan Shrike Type-III, because then you can cloak. Don't attack the USS Excelsior, stay away from it until the warhead explodes, and just plough through the Klingon and Romulan fighters that attack you and the ISS Excelsior. Defend the ISS Excelsior, too.
