greetings, my answer to your question, a holodeck, control of a star ship, the ability to travel to many planets, i havn't played many star trek games, i just finished elite force 2, and i do not know if there are any rpg star trek games out there. I do not think developers have realised that star trek is partly based on exploration.

An online RPG: A kind of mixture between Elite Force and Bridge Commander.
You start as an ensign (gender and species and look can be choosen) on a starship and you have to work your way up to command a ship, or whatever. Hundrets of ships, worlds and missions. Everything can be touched and controled. You can walk around your starship, or beam down to a planet or starbase!
This game would rock.
Afraidly I know something like this will never happen :( .

and why exactly not, i mean lets look at (i dare not to say) puny 'star wars', they are currently developing their second popular rpg, 'knights of the old republic 2', automatically star trek would start plotting ideas, if this hadn't occured to them before (which is hard to believe) and at the top of their notes a heading stating "why havn't we thought of this before", which frustrating enough as it is, hasnt happened. Is there a reason for this, or perhaps reasons?.....Popularity of the star trek gaming genre? perhaps...Funding....errm no....., popularity of the star trek series and its fans (just as long as enough copies are sold, otherwise yes) oh well ....

Maybe just maybe, creating a game of such a size  would be too much a hassle,  meaning to prove popular to us the game would have to include many planets each with their own environments, then there is the possibility that not every star trek fan has the internet for online gaming or the appropriate bandwith, or even the right specs on their system for a smooth experience.

I can  imagine owning my own customised ship, even if it were a cargo ship not capable of warp, and on board your own crew and a hologram of your choice...

Something like Klingon Academy, but improved graphics and multiplayer version for it, so that you can do some dog fights with other ships.

Definitely a true RPG, not mass multiplayer though

Armada 3 would be really cool.  The could have the Scimitar (Shinzon's ship) under the Romulan Star Empire.

Like a lot of the other posters, I'd love to see a "Star Trek" game that mirrors the RPG-ish gameplay of "Knights of the Old Republic."

In fact, I'd love to see it set just after the Dominion War.  And, as opposed to the Ebon Hawk, I'd like to travel the stars in an Excelsior-class or Defiant-class vessel.  Both designs are freakin' gorgeous ... and not too powerful.  (A Sovereign-class ship wouldn't provide enough of a challenge.)

But alas, Activision recently relenquished the "Star Trek" franchise, and I've heard no word of any new developments...

well you go to your star ship or ship whatever it will be , and it will have a computer interface displaying the beta, delta, alpha, and gamma quadrants how bout that?, ofcourse therel be restrictions such as romulan space, klingon empire, and you would need to surgically alter your face which would cost credits, there would be upgrades like new warp drives you can buy or weapons.....yes true the game would be immensly big,,,iam goign to cry now

Same as you did in Bridge Commander. This game gave you the feeling of command (if only Saffi was not there... ).
I think starting as a captain would not be interesting. You would have to start as cadet, or ensign and work your way up.
It would be even cooler if you could start as Klingon in the Klingon fleet, or a Romulan on a Romulan ship etc. Or you could join the Orion Pirates!!!
There would be endless possibilities.

Btw Nador: What didn't you like about KOTOR? It's my favorite game.
