Simply wanted to make people aware that there are a number of mods available out there for starfleet command 3. They are unique in many ways and I would suggest that people try each of them out and judge them on their own merrits. For people who are interested in the sfc community, check out dynaverse.net - the hub since taldren has closed its doors.

islandwars -> http://islandwars.net/
this mod is based on pelican's old dominion war. many changes were made.

litter box-> http://www.battleclinic.com/litterbox/news.php
this mod is based on battle clinic's battle zone mod but again, has many adjustments made for its own good.

dominion wars -> http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/%7Edomwars/home.shtml
this is one of the orignal mods for sfc3. based on a chris jones dominion war mod, pelican has refined it over and over again - and is working on a 5.0 version which should be exciting.

battlezone -> http://www.battleclinic.com/
oringinally developed off the unity 1 mod, battlezone has been rebuilt from the ground up.

near distand future -> http://www.theneardistantfuture.net/Main/index.html
this mod is based on the unity mod with some adaptations.

unit -> http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/unity/
Unity is based on captain korah's "TNZ" mod. Many changes and updates have been made.

Generations at War -> http://www.starfleetcommand3.net
Built by my self, the mod is designed for the trekkie out there but bridges both the fictional and game play gap between sfc 2 and 3.

so go, download and have fun!

Near Distant Future was based on Dominion Wars originally, not Unity, since we had recieved the ok to use build 531 but had not recieved it. We used When we got build 531, we used the DefaultLoadOut and DefaultCore from the stock game, and modded it. There are many differences in NDF and DomWars and Unity:

1. Every race has wide arcs, but some races have more of them.

2. The Primary weapons are different than in other mods. All primaries do the same amount of damage, the differences between them is the range, mass, and cost.

3. The Federation and the Klingons are allies, as well as the Borg and Species 8472.

4. There are rules as to which weapon you can place on your ship. I.E. You cannot refit Klingon Disruptors onto a Federation ship, even though you have the ability to.

5. The mod is based approximately 10 years after Star Trek: Nemesis.

6. The Borg have shields instead of regenerating hull, banking and tractor weapons. They will be worked on this next build of the mod.

7. The Romulan plasma has been removed in order to bring them inline with the other races. Their hull has been strengthened, as well as their shields and armor. Their Heaviest Heavy Weapon is the Gravimetric Torpedo.

8. There are new textures and sound effects, some from DomWars, some from Unity, and some new. There is also an awesome Music Mod that is soon to be updated to version 1.1.

9. NDF has incorporated Role Playing into the campaigns. I.E. The Federation has a base. It is the Quantum Torpedo Distribution Depot. Another race recieves intelligence about this when they placed a base on a certain planet. That race Deep Strikes the Quantum Torpedo Distribution Depot, and the Federation no longer can use the Quantum Torpedo. They must place a base on a planet at a certain hex to regain the Quantum.

10. The BB's aren't super ships any more, 1 DN could give a BB a run for the money. 2 BCH's could take out 1 BB. 3 FF's a BCH. (There are only FF'S, CL's, BCH's, DN's, and BB's: no DD's and CA's) The setup of the primaries has helped achieve this.

11. No one is able to take out a base or planet solo. You need at least 2 BB's in on a Base or Planet Assault.

12. Each race can only have a maximum of 3 BB's on at any time, and 4 DN's at any time.

The Webpage for Unity hardly does it justice anymore. http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/unity/

To date, we have developed a new race of 60+ Pirates and replaced 100+ ships from KoraH's TNZ and extensively rebalanced CaptainKoraH's base mod.

Unity, a 243 meg download has been from Beta500 (Activision patch) to Taldren beta v531 and soon will be converted to Taldren beta v534. It has seen 8 full patches and updates since being indtroducted in December. To date, SFC3 players have 9,500+ downloads on STGD, GameSpot and SFC3files.com.

Unity also has an impressive single-player campaign series, unique to any mod. 'Unity Conquest' campaigns and 6 maps are added for single player. Textures and sounds for the game have all changed from the stock game and the visual and sound effects are a compilation of work from KoraH, Nannerslug, ThePelican, Grich, Iceman and myself.

KnightFrieza brought 60+ ships and new bases into the first Unity (Unity I), many never before flown in the D-3, which were conversions from EAW/OP (Empires at War/Orion Pirates) and a full fleet for the Borg of 50+ ships, including assimilated Klingon, Romulans and UFP vessels.

Cardassian/Species8472, and Rakellian were first made non-playable by Unity modders.

The lead modder is KnightCozbo, assisted by KnightIceman, KnightRivaris, MajorRacal and myself. Recently, two new rookie modders joined the Unity Team -- Markyd and Grinch -- and are now learning their craft by converting Klingon Academy and Bridge Commander vessels to SFC3. Unity has over 360+ ships and bases ... Breen, Vulcan, Borg, Cardassian, Species, Lyran, Federation, Tholian, Rakellian, Romulan, Klingon and Borg.

Other ships from Unity are available on the STGD supported Tri-Mod Shipyards, including our recent Mirak, Klingon, Pirate and Tholian add ons.

Below is the readme.txt which explains our history and all those who helped and participated in this community mod.

=========

Unity was done in an effort to bring the SFCIII community together as we awaited the "official" patch from Activision more than one year after the Star Fleet Command III was released. We chose this name recommended by F9thRyker because the Brotherhood of Trans-Atlantic Knights urged -- and in some cases badgered -- the Taldren/Activision community to finish work on the SFCIII patch in 2003.

One week before we wrapped up UnityV2.5, Taldren convinced Activision to release the "testers" build used by ThePelican (DominionWars), Nannerslug (Generation at War), BattleZone (BattleClinic) and IslandWars. It went public and we shifted gears.

We thank Taldren employees for the patch and the work testers did to get the new 531BETA ready for the public in late April of 2004. Thank you Ann, Ken, Pestalence, Fluf, IslandBound, ThePelican, Nannerslug, el-Karnak, Castrin, TalonClaw, the Yahoo admins group and the BETA testing team at Taldren for not giving up and helping SFC3 be a better game.

Most importantly, we thank Dave Ferrell -- the God of Star Trek gaming -- for continuing his work on the game code even after retirement and moving from California and leaving Taldren.

We hope that the Trek gaming genre can move forward in 2004 past the differences and not look back in anger to the events of 2003.

The BOTAKnights are a committed group of 30 gamers from five continents and eight countries who dearly love Trek gaming.

Release date: Unity was released publically on Dec. 21, 2003 and can be downloaded on the Star Trek Gamers Directory at http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/. Unity II was released for distribution in mid-January 2004, and is a stand-alone mod. The Unity I mod is NOT necessary to run Unity II, and may affect game play. It is recommended you delete the original Unity mod and reinstall Unity II. The Unity II base of 246 megs was renamed 'Unity: The Third Age' in February 2004. Unity V3.0 was released for download June 6, 2004 for public download on STGD.

ONLINE CAMPAIGN
---------------

The "Unity" campaign rules can be found on the Star Trek Gamers Directory at http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/forum/ . You must read the rules to play on the DynaVerse, which is brought to us by VSFTie. We offer a special thanks to the Vulcan Strike Fleet (VSF), the International Online Gamers Club (IOGC), RFA-Gravity, Azrael, F9thLangsdorf and the many TNZ fans that joined our transition to STGD in January 2004. Thanks also to the more than 400 players who helped test the four versions of Unity, which to date has more than 5,000 downloads.

Requirements
------------

The beta 1.01 (2) patch and the beta 531, both downloadable on STGD and various other sites.

DX9b from http: http://www.Microsoft.com

"Unity: The Third Age" V3.0 download -- 279 megs. This is the new base download and adds will be made from this base.

-------------------------

This mod is NOT compatible with the non-patched version of SFCIII. The Unity: 'The Third Age' 246 meg base is compatable with the beta 1.01 and can be used to run with the standard beta 1.01. The add of the Unity V2.5 (80 megs) will convert the mod to  the 531 build.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
-------------------------

Simple, double click the self-install .exe program. Then install the latest patches.

-----------

The BOTAKnights did weeks of work on the files to re-balance ships and change many arcs in all classes, cargo space and profiles to rebalance KoraH's TNZ (The Neutral Zone).

-----------

--Scripts

Scripts for missions come from The Pelican (Dominion Wars creator and admin) and he passed them to Captain KoraH for use in the TNZ. The V2.5 versions used many of el-Karnak's missions.

***Taldren testers***

-----------------------

Special thanks to the testers and who helped KoraH at Taldren and the Taldren BETA testing team. Of course, without the work of the dozens of people at Taldren -- and the patience of the woman we call "Taldren Ann" (Taldren_Admin) -- none of us would be here to download this mod today. Our hats are off to Taldren -- and all their employees -- for all their hard work and commitment to the SFC series. And without Dave Ferrell, even after his retirement from Taldren in late 2003, we wouldn't be playing this game at all. Ferrell continues his work at home after moving from California.

=========

Several ships were removed from Unity II, but the Borg fleet remained and KnightCozbo, KnightRivaris and myself removed the repeat ships from the Klingon, Federation and Romulan fleets and added significant balancing changes after the first run of Unity II.

Unity II added the Lyran to the Klingon fleet, along with new Lyran battle stations. New Gorn, Lyran and Pirate fleets were also added by our modders. These ships have never before flown in SFC3, and they are exclusive to this mod. Any other mod using these ships does not have consent of the BOTAKnights to do so.

After Unity ran in December 2003, we moved the primary source of information to the Star Trek Gamers Directory, where the mod can be downloaded. A new Unity Website is now up, and visuals of the ships in this mod can be seen there. Go to http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/unity/ for more details. A link to the Unity forums is also there.

Without the help of Victor1st, Katie Venra and others at STGD, this mod would never have been distrubuted. Victor made the Unity Website and is lead administrator for the Unity forums at http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/forum/

-------------------

Unity V2.2 UPDATE

On Feb.9, we updated the the mod with significant balancing changes to strenghten Borg armor and add ships -- including torpedo boats for all races -- to the mod and starter ships to stop the use of exploits, such as the self-destruction exploit. We thank ThePelican for his help on this. The Borg cloaking Defiant was among the adds to the V2.2. We added three missions available for public download from Karnak. The V2.2 includes the 2.1 patch fixes, and therefore the V2.1 is no longer necessary. The V2.2 includes single player add-on's and maps from the Unity II campaign in the Unity Conquest single-player camapaigns. The V2.2 includes fixes for the Rakellian platforms and adds the Rakellians and the Cardassian with full fleets as a non-playable races. Under the direction of KnightWaterTiger, both KnightCozbo and KnightRivaris did the majority of balancing work for UnityV2.2 and V2.3, and we appreciate thier efforts.

The Unity II base (246 megs) was renamed "Unity: The 'Third Age.' and we began using version numbers for the updates and add-ons. Both can be downloaded at STGD or http://SFC3files.com/

'Unity: The Third Age': Unity 2.3(6) UPDATE May 02, 2004

The V2.3 saw six evolutions in testing trials. We packaged V2.3 on March 1. We concentrated on dozens of pilot recommendations and made significant changes and rebalacing based on two multi-player Unity campaigns.

Changes from the Unity 2.2

*SB and SB2 cores available for refit to all ships.
*SB core power increased.
*Engine masses for all races and ships were adjusted.
*Price schedule adjusted for all ships to reflect value added by systems.
*System prices changed to reflect value of system.
*AI loadouts changed and increased in strength. Legend crews added to more AI ships.
*Non-payable races received 3 Gorn ships from Klink force -- The Dragon (BCH), the Reptilicon (DN) and the Tyrannus (BB). These ships from TNZ 2 were KoraH's design and work.
*Feds receive Tholian destroyer from TNZ 2.
*Romulan Reman Warbird receives Borg SB warp core.
*Borg Armor V increased 25 hit points.
*Borg BB hulls reduced approximately 2%-17% in hit points.
*Legendary crews added to bases and platforms.
*Romulan defense plats replaced Medium Plasma with Myotronic beam.
*Each race received a unique playable starter ship. The ships used ae from ThePelican's Domininion Wars.
*Ship names modified to include ships named after key players of Unity.
*Small mass change in Klink D-10
*Several BBs reduced in fighter carrying ability to 2.
*Bases of all races repriced to lower costs.
*Single-player files were updated with campaign files.
-----------------

KnightRivaris developed two batch file to allow switching from online settings to use non-playable ships for TCP/IP and GameSpy. Click the batch switch, and a pilot can fly all the non-playable vessels. Another click of the "Online Unity" batch and players return to standard multi-player settings used on the Dyna. There are batch files also for new textures done by Rivaris.

V2.5 Update(6) UPDATE May 02, 2004

The work of MajorRacal and his Borg fleet are featured in our latest patch, along with a dozen more ship adds from various sources. http://majorracal.tripod.com/

The Star Trek Gamers Directory will be hosting MajorRacal's work in the near future -- all of it. He is a fantastic modder who pays attention to lag issues with polygon counts. Look for more of his ships in the future in upcoming packages. His ships fleshed out the BCH and DN line of Borg done by KoraH and Frieza and the already outstanding line of assimilated ships.

Unity is a "cannon" mod, and we don't mix and match weapons and technology from other races for refit without a reason. You won't find Borg armor on non-Borg vessels and there are no Borg shields activated.

Other two new Federation ship additions come courtesy of Trooper, who runs the Alternate Universe A and B BETA servers. He is a joy to work with ... he brinsg the Fedfastattack ship, a cross Akira and Soveriegn design we named the "SuperAkira" -- a DN. Also this ship -- DarkAngel -- a Federation kitbash Constitution and Akira mix. Pretty ship.

UNITY V3.0
----------

Unity V3.0 was the second run on the Taldren 531 beta and we feel this is our best work to date. We have increased shielding across the board for shielded races. We have added special textures and targting graphics; a new scanner bar and break models. The orginal Taldren ships are left intact for all races and also displayed in V3.0 as they are in the game untouched. We have kept a powerful Borg race and worked hours and hours on balance with the Borg. In the future patch Unity will boast a Pirate race of 50+ ships. Already 27 new Pirates have been added, many from MajorRacal and James Formo. The Hydran from Formo are some outstanding works, along with Vackan from Racal. Their work will be premiered in future patches. Ships in the future will also include for the Lyran race will include the works of Frostworks. The modelers themselves have readme.txt files wirth their works. We have not altered ships or their textures in any way used by other moddlers, and there are no kitbashes here. We either use the model intact or don't use it at all. We also added a beatiful Federation BB, the Excalibur.

--End of update--

This took months to compile by KoraH -- and those who helped him -- and KnightFrieza (the BOTAKnights former lead modder) who has been collecting many of these ships for since 2002 from a variety of sources and public download sites. There are over 250 ship models in Unity, playable races include Federation, Romulan, Klingon & Borg. Some sites where ships were gathered are offline. If we have missed a credit here or author, please let us know and we will edit the "readme.txt" file.

Modder Nannerslug of the F9th fleet who is making the "Generations at War" mod also helped KoraH with some ships and reskins.

We give special thanks to KoraH, as this mod could NOT have been completed without all his hard work and changes he made while his mod ran on the D-3 Dynaverse and changes suggested by his many fans on BattleClinic (http://www.battleclinic.com) in 2003. KoraH was a man with a vision for this game and this community, and we miss his input greatly. Also Special thanks to the The Pelican and the work he did in Dominion Wars -- and his advice with sound files and textures files -- and anticipated future assistance. Also appreciation to Chris Jones for his work on the TNG Mega Mod. We look to all modders of EAW/OP and SFCIII for ideas and ship variations. There are already a massive number of ships in this mod, but if I can find any more, we will add them. Already we took out many ships to size down the mod, so expect more with Unity 1.0. We would also like the thank the Galactic Foreign Legion (GFL) for helping to paint more than a dozen models they provided, including new fighters. Other "readme" files are in the ship files themselves; look there for credits.

Other "readme" files are in the ship files themselves; look there for credits. Thanks Offkey for a beautiful Klingon BB and other ships he worked on with Frieza. We exchanged 15 models with GFL.

Single Player Campaigns
-----------------------

This mod -- when patched with Unity files -- should be 100% compatible with the single player campaigns. Ww have taken a lot of time to create a separate "Unity Conquest" for each of the four playable races. We have included maps from all Unity campaigns for use. To change a map (.mvm) go to the .mct file and change it for that conquest campaign. We know thousands of SFC3'ers play single player, and we have made maps large and small for your enjoyment. There is also a separate readme.txt for in your main folder with instructions. We have also left a separate folder for standard Taldren settings in your MetaAssets folder.

Sound
-----

The weapons sounds are from the original TNZ sound, which reduced lag considerably. Our textures were handpicked, with some taken from TNZ and ThePelican's Dominion Wars and Grinch. It installs a number of new weapons visual and sound effects.

TEXTURES
--------

The modders of Unity have replaced virtually every textures for ship explosions, probes, disrupters, plasma, quantums, Borg beams, shileds -- EVERYTHING. We have reduced lag with our last two packages. Grinch provided a few textures, KoraH, ThePelican -- and many were handmade by WaterTiger and Cozbo. There are new targeting and scanner screens. We thank The_Cowboy for his help on the scanner screens and IslandWars for the idea.

UNITY SIGHTS & SOUNDS
---------

There is a separate Unity Sights & Sounds pack available for download at the STGD; it can be used with ANY version of the game.

Single Player Campaigns
-----------------------

AThis mod is 100% compatible with the single player campaigns. Special instructions and stock BETA files were added to be able to switch back and forth from BETA .gf settings to those used on the Dyna. Unity maps from four campaigns are included and special Unity Conquest .mct files are already set up and ready to go. We work hard to bring a bug-free single player campaign that offers more than other mods. It's all set once the downloads and install are done.

Sound
-----

A new Unity Sights and Sound pack was also added to the V2.5 which brings the game to life. It is included in the V2.5 download and will also be available in a single download this month. Other music sound packs will also be created to drop in in the near future for a nice rotation of music files to enjoy while the game is played.

The visual pack was done by KnightIceman and brings a whole new feel to the game with textures for all weapons. The TNZ sounds and DominionWars weapons sounds were also used for Unity. Thanks to KoraH and ThePelican.

The Webpage for Unity hardly does it justice anymore. http://www.stcd.sgnonline.com/unity/

To date, we have developed a new race of 60+ Pirates and replaced 100+ ships from KoraH's TNZ and rebalanced CaptainKoraH's base mod.

=========

=========

Note:- There are quite a large number of models which have no readme files, and hence we don't know who made the model. If you know who made any of the models on this list, PLEASE contact me via e-mail so we can update.

battlezone -> http://www.battleclinic.com/
oringinally developed off the unity 1 mod, battlezone has been rebuilt from the ground up.

Just a slight correction Nanner: BattleZone was created from the last official release of Korah's TNZ mod with full permissions.

Well I must comment on my mod "The Near Distant Future". I dont mean to step on your toes NCC but Near Distant Future was not based on the awesome Dominion Wars Mod. NDF used some aspects of DW to create our Mod. I created the mod to be a what if. What would happen 5 years in the future after the movie Nemises. NCC is correct as far as our way of doing things, But this Mod is a brend new from the Ground up creation. We did some cut and pasteing but then had to go and redo the refits etc. So to think NDF was created like another is completely false. The Near Distant Future was created to be like no other mod in use in SFC III. And you know what we did it.

Okay, my brother installed the Unity mod ... and, well, he's starting out in Star Wars ships.  Um, what the %$#@?!?

It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so easily destroyed.  I mean, the first Fed mission asks you to destroy an Intrepid-class vessel with a friggin' Y-Wing!!!

So anyway, my question is this:  How do you get past these 'Star Wars' missions?  If anyone can give us any tips to tackle starships with starfighters, I'd be ULTRA appreciative...

The original story-based campaigns don't work on DomWars, Near Distant Future, or Unity (to my knowledge) not yet, anyways. You can only play Single Player Conquest on DomWars and Unity; NDF's doesn't work yet.

Well then...
Is there a patch available that enables game balance?

We'd both like to run through the Fed campaign.  However, it seems the developers had this wonderful idea to split the game not into three separate races, but three separate difficulty levels:
Klingons = Easy
Romulans = Normal
Federation = Difficult

Hell, I couldn't even destroy a single D'Deridex ship with a fully-stocked Sovereign.  Its shields just would not go down.  That kinda' sh*t would never have happened in "SFC1" or "SFC2."

Personally, I've been less than impressed with "SFC3"...

not a patch like that out there to my knowledge... but i recommend that you play an modded online campaign when one goes up. Dominion Wars should be up shortly, followed by Unity and then Near Distant Future.

info can be found through the above links

if you play the single player campaign (with no mods), make sure you play it with the lowest difficult setting.

You found the Fed campaign hard?  I finsihed it in two days.   But then again I stuck Type XII Phasers on my Sovereign.  Did oyu refit  your ship at all?  Oh it would be even easier if you allowed youself to use the base Phaser........  I did!!!! It took me two seconds and now I got type XIII Phasers  :laugh:  :laugh:  :laugh:  :laugh:  :laugh:
