Why is Starfleet Command 3 so hard to find? Is it worth the effort of tracking it down? I'm craving some Star Trek gaming, so I thought that I might give it a try. It seems to have a following on the web.
I know Activision and Paramount had a falling-out awile back. Have they patched things up? What is the future of Star Trek videogames?

I did have a hard time trying to find mine and I just got it on the internet! So I don't know why it is so hard to find now a days  |

Activision is no longer the publisher of Star Trek games. I doubt any more SFC3 games will be manufactured. There should be still some out there though.

SFC3 isnt worth the 50 bucks i paid for it. The small Missions are fine and it does full fill that craving for StarTrek, but the Online leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Normally i play DarkSpace [ www.darkspace.net ], when i first found it i thought it was produced by the same people who make Star Fleet command. The big Differnce is that in DS, you dont fight AI's , you fight entire Fleets of people accross 40 solarsystem. you earn rank and can get bigger and better ships, with lots of modifications. Its a Very Clean and Team based game. Theres a Great online community there, the funny thing is it sounds like im a promoter, but im not. it is truly just a great game.
Id wish that StarTrek and DS could get there heads together and make a StarTrek Mod or Online ST..
DS is a Free to DownLoad Game. When your a Demo acct you can play for Free on the Newbie server. When you pay about 10 dollars Us a month you can play with all the big boys in the metaverse. If your on a Cable Connect, it will olny take about 8 min to DL the Game. 3 factions, 2 human and 1 alien all in total war.
If you do end up getting there look up the fleet im in..
ICC Faction, Fleet Space Warriors 50 ppl in the fleet from the ranks of Grand Admiral down to Midshipmen. Were always looking for people to help out in the game.

How new is this game? I have seen pics from 1 and 2 and this Orion thing. Looks pretty cool. I haven't played any of them. What are they like?

You can upgrade engines and weapons etc for the different Hull's.

okay, lets straighten a few things out.
First off, SFC3 can no longer be found like sfc1,2 and op because it looks like activision RMA'd the game beyond just quitting production. Amazon.com and ebay are good places to find the game.
SFC3 (and the sfc community) is still alive and kicking. Even though Taldren (the developer) has closed shop - we (meaning the community) have created a place called dynaverse.net. It is a work still in progress which will be a hub for all things SFC related (such as patches, etc).
Finally, while Water Tiger is correct in posting about the mods (and the mods for sfc3 are by far the best, imo, than other trek games - that is large part thanks to taldren for the modability of the game) - those 3 (especially near distant future) are not necessarily "the bigest mods."
There is battlezone (by the battle clinic - www.battleclinic.com), there is also islandwars (cannot remember the url for it, but its on the gamespot downloads page) and my mod, Generations at War. (www.starfleetcommand3.net).
I would encourage individuals to check all the mods and enjoy them. Lots of ground to cover and many hours to spend blasting your friends. :)
So come on in - the water is fine. In my opinion, it is the best Trek game to be playing until another comes along..
