I beleave Warp Drive because it is much faster than Hyper Drive because Hyper Drive only goes about the speed of light. And as we all know that warp can be much faster!

Actually, Hyper Drive apparently propels faster than the speed of light. However, we all know that is an impossibility. However, Warp Drive merely shrinks space in frontof the ship, which is theoretically possible. As such, Warp Drive is more believable.

[Remember, in Ep5 I think, someone mentions a sublight generator]

Hyper drive in star wars is pure fantasy, has nothing to do with Euclidean mathematics...

Stargate's Hyperdrive? or some other hyperdrive mentioned on Star Trek?

I'm not a big fan of SW

but I have to say their "Hyper Drive" is faster.

Reasons why:
1. Its just a "name" who knows what it really is.
2. This technology is given to their galaxy by another off galaxy race. Which started the whole damn Republic.
"damn, as in "pre-warp first contacts" scums who aren't prepared for space life which started their whole criminal activities."

3. We already know they can go around their own galaxy which is much bigger then our "Milky Way" galaxy in a matter of days.
4. The way they talk about their "Hyperspace Routes" brings me to think its somewhat like
Transwarp, Slipstream or Subspace Corridors where they require "routes"
5. The Republic is over 24,000 years old. Though their progress is slower because of the crimes, wars & Siths. That is a long time to progress still.

So I must regretedly say that whatever this "Hyper Drive"'s real name is or its functions. It is faster then our Average Warp Drives

:(

Well unless you count "Warp 10" a not recommended means of travel. Then Warp is faster
:)

the stargate is a wormhole, one way around the einsteinian speed limit.

@vold, no what they really mean by hyperspace routes are navigatable paths around the cosmos, like a highway.  there are certain paths that wont lead you sailing into a star.  And in star wars 1 (a new hope i dont recognize the new crap george lucas is shoveling out as star wars) harrison ford's character is barking at chewwie to make the jump to lightspeed and in the empire strikes back c-3p0 was screaming about "the hyperdrive motivator has been damaged it is impossible to go to lightspeed." So I think its a safe assumption that hyperdrive refers to an engine that can hurl a craft to the speed of light.  But in the cantina in a new hope i think han solo says something about "she'll go point 5 past light speed," so even though they can travel faster than light its impossible to really know how to measure .5 past light speed because star wars never really implicated the exact medium for which to measure, but im pretty sure that at warp 9.9, which is theoretically 3,053 times the speed of light, is much much faster.
in regards as to how the star wars characters get around the galaxy so quickly i can only offer 2 theories. 1. their galaxy is much much smaller in comparison to ours but for some reason the drake equation does not apply there and every planet you see is capable of supporting life.  2, well you want your characters to get there otherwise by the time they did the action would be over and there would be no movie.  So even though both modes of transportation are not possible because it would take more energy than there is in the universe to get a spaceship to travel the speed of light, let alone faster than, and to have the inhabitants survive the trip without any side effects (bones turning into jelly ect) i still believe the warp drive to be far superior

1. Like TOS, the SW part 4, 5 & 6 "The old movies"

can't be taken seriously of what they say, for
"what would they know" :)

2. i considered their galaxy as small too once, until I talked with someone who knows more details on SW then me, he said that the encyclopedia or somethings says its bigger then our galaxy.

3. That's not much of a reason, your 2nd theory. Its just plain "show ignorance" no offense :)

But ignorant or not,
like I said it won't explain much if u put it that way, it still states that whatever their engine they are using is much faster then ST's conventional Warp.

:logical:

anyway, thanks about the route thing :)

ok but do they ever state anything in the newer movies about the speed of their hyperdrives? i have no idea.  and as for show ignorance thats the point.  :D

The new movies are taking a more cautious approach.

"Don't claim anything" lol

best be quiet about it if they can't come up with a nice explaination :;):

Of course, they got 316 years to explain about it, lol

SW didn't have much info to think up why their engines are that fast, so they can't say anything yet.

Yes I know Stargate uses a wormhole to go places. I was trying to get a poll on mostly ST of SW. I am not just a Star Trek fan I like most of them, Stargate, Star Wars (just because it's SciFi), And lots of fantisy stuff too.

Look at the Quantum SlipStrem Drive built by the Voyager crew in 'Timeless', Hyperdrive has nothing on that.
