...then once you reach space, Solar cells take over power production? Or do they (sc) produce power all the way from the ground (hence ’flying towards the sun’)

How much power can you get from solar cells? This whole field of energy engineering is what has to be worked on.. That and material and chemical engineering.

I saw some time ago, NASA, I believe, had constructed a remote control plane. It is able to stay aloft indefinitely. Solar cells, convert sunlight into eletricty, run the props and charge the battries in the daytime. At night the moters run off the batts. I think that’s how it work’s.
