Yes I did see the movie.

But do you guys remember the ST:NG episode when the Enterpise encouter’s the Dyson sphere and Geordi find’s Scotty in the Transporter buffer?

Scotty said something to the effect of having expecting Kirk to launch a rescue mission.

I could only thing of possible explanations...
1. He was confused due to injury or old age. (though he really seemed quite a capable retiree) :)
2. Pehaps if you’ve been in the Nexus.. even if your out of the Nexus... perhaps your still there.. and just don’t know it yet. Or something back then skewed time just an iddy biddy bit.
3. Maybe something somewhere brings Kirk back. :)

The TNG episode to which you refer, ’Relics’, was written in 1992. The movie, ’Star Trek: Generations’, was released in 1994, two years after Scotty was recovered by Geordi.

The writers of ’Relics’ had no idea that two years later Kirk would die.
