There are a lot of things that TOS showed in production that are now a part of daily life. I never expected computers to be so avaiable, yet here I am at home communicating with all of you. And hw about those annoying cell pones? Aren’t they similar to the communicators used b Kirk and the gang?
The point is that what is the invention of some writer’s imagination today is going to be the technology of tomorrow. Jules Verne predicted that we’d b taking a rip to the moon. H. G. Wells introduced the concept of aliens to us. All through this century there have been books and movies about science that are fantasies today, but may well be reality tomorrow.
Is there going to be a warp drive? Who knows. I am not a physics student, and my limited understanding of science tells me that there is nothing that travels faster than light except tachyons. But Stephen Hawkings, who does know something about the subject of science, doesn’t see a problem with the concept of faster than light travel. So maybe we will be zipping around the galaxy one day and meeting new peoples and forming new alliances. We just have to keep an open mind, and keep funding the space and science projects.

Doesn’t going faster than light kinda make you time travel ?
Because if you go faster then the light, you would arrive at the destination before the light from you source did, and you would see the past ?
Just an idea !

I Think you are referring to Einstien’s idea.
As the story goes... Brother A and B lived happily on earth till Brother A was recruited by NASA to test their light-speed propulsion system. (Taking in some creative licensing here) As Brother A left earth on the Lightspeed ship, He travelled to... Bernard’s star to earth in two months... or it seemed two months to him.
Because he was going fast as the speed of light, he was in suspended animation to the rest of the galaxy while the rest of the galaxy was in suspended animation from him.
After he returned from Bernard’s star, While Brother A grew old for a year, Brother B grew old for 50 years...
And saw that he gave birth to his son, J. Archer.
That’s how i remember it.

Obviously the ships could not travel faster than light through normal space, rather a warp field, or "bubble", is created around the ship. The ship, along with everything else within the warp field, are constantly moving between subspace and normal space, remaining in neither for any longer than Planck Time.

Well from what I have heard yea it is possible, but in the TNG episodes. Remember Gordi saying something about the flux capasitors on at least one occasion. Does the name flux capasitors ring a bell. If it doesn’t then I guess you haven’t watched Back to the Future. So I guess they created the flux capasitors in order to keep from time traveling at warp.
