There have been countless documentaries about Star Trek over the years, but none have explored the captains of the franchise. Not the actors, but rather the captains. Well, that’s about to change with The Captains of the Final Frontier, an upcoming BIO Channel special.

Over the course of the special’s two-hour running time, viewers will be treated to a look at all the Star Trek captains, one by one, with comparisons drawn between them as leaders and even lovers. And it won’t be a surface affair, as the documentary’s makers are digging deep into each character’s creation, development, casting and on-screen evolution spanning from TOS to Star Trek (2009). Providing insight and commentary are two dozen-plus Star Trek actors, writers, directors, producers and authors, among them Kate Mulgrew, Rick Berman, Bruce Greenwood, Keith DeCandido, Nana Visitor, Larry Nemecek, Ira Steven Behr, Robert Picardo, Anthony Montgomery, Garfield and Judith Reeves Stevens, Tim Russ, Denise Crosby, Nicholas Meyer and Rod Roddenberry.

The BIO Channel will premiere The Captains of the Final Frontier in the U.S. on Wednesday, November 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
